Can I set up a dreambox to get a longer EPG or teletext for the tv guide?

With a sly digibox and FTV card I can view the EPG for the full evening. But when the card is in the dreambox I can only get the EPG for the next programme.

Does anyone know how to get the extended EPG or a teletext tv guide without being on the net ?

Yes I thought the epg was given by the provider, so how does it work on the sly digibox.
I have found teletext (is that tuxtxt on gemini 2.4) on BBC1&2 and ch5 gives shedule but I can't get the ITVs.

install the latest PLi-citrine image. It has MV incorporated with mediahighway EPG capabilities (for dutch/other C+ channels), AND it comes with a downloadable plugin to get EPG data for the main SKY channels. Just download and run. After the first run, don't forget to change MV's input settings, and use the alias manager to map the new channels to your channel list.

Yes your right JTA but I think you need to have the DB on-line. I don't have an internet connection to the DB and that's why I'm struggling with teletext.

it's an internet download (from www.bleb.org ) so yes, your DB needs to be online indeed......
your link goes to the epgui plugin, which I know as well, but which doesn't work with Sky-UK EPG, which was your primary question, wasn't it .....

I got my copy from http://dreambox.sjerom.com/modules/mydownloads/ - use the appropriate download link at the end of the text !
as for posting the plugin itself, I'll give it a try this evening.

True Sky EPG : No !
You CAN get EPG info for the main SKY channels using MV with this script. It's not automatic, though, you'll have to download the data manually by running the script every few days.
so everything now depends on your definition of "$ly EPG" .......

Thanks for your patience JTA - once I get there - there will be no stopping me.

I only have the internet at work so I need to download files onto usb stick and manually put them into the dreambox at home.
I've now got the MV plugin for the gemini image from the ihad site. Once I plug this in can I update the EPG files for sky to see the EPG for the next few days ?
If so where do I get them and where do I ftp them.

you will need to install the MV plugin first, and make sure it's running OK.
you will then have to install the Sky EPG plugin, which I will post tonight, and install this one. This will give you the EPG files for Sky.
you will then have to modify MV to make it read the Sky EPG files. I will include a small 'readme' file how to do this. And you will have to link the EPG information to the correct channels. You only need to do this once.
When MV shows all the correct EPG information, then you just need to keep your EPG files up-to-date by running the Sky EPG plugin every 2 days.
WAIT A SEC - you don't have an internet connection on your dreambox ! You won't be able to download the EPG files ! I'm afraid that'll be the end of the road for you, as MV cannot extract the EPG information from the SKY data-stream yet.

and that's what I don't understand. The sly digibox gets the full EPG for the day from the satellite transponder - no internet or telephone line required. This is because the digibox has epg software to do this. So is this software available for the dreambox.

As i said before - true Sky EPG : No.
the information IS available, but the dreambox cannot read it. EPG from MediaHighway (Canal+) can already be read, not so for Sky. It'll arrive some day, but until then you'll have to be patient (or connect your dreambox to the internet).

You need to run a program called 'xmltv' on your work computer. This will download the tv listings in xml format. Then set up mv on you dreambox to use 'myxmltv' and copy the xml file to the myxmltv directory on your dreambox, and press '0' on mv to refresh the data.

I believe Sky use the OpenTV platform to provide the EPG and interactive content. Don't expect to see this on your dreambox anytime soon.

okay, here's the SKY EPG plugin as promised. I've included a readme.txt file with all necessary instructions (well, for a dreambox 7000 series anyway, not sure if this will work on a 500 or 7020 but there's no harm in trying).

yes, i have also heard that sky use openTV. where is the source of the problem in getting the DB to read this info ?

I've just realized that the script uses a utility called 'xml2epg' .
I think this comes installed with MV, but just to be on the safe side I've included it in a new, third, package :

also it says ftp to /var/tuxbox/plugins/) but when i use dcc for my dreambox 600 i cant find a "plugins" extension from this. Any help greatly appreciated Thanks
