Yes myself and a couple other tried it and would`nt load the ts files. We have now hit onDVR studio pro and it works fine. Try it yourself and see. You can use it for free for 30 days.

Had not spotted that in the huge list of options! Fraid I cant get it to work, it comes up with a message in German and English offering to modify a file and then prompts you to reboot. Still nothing. I think it might work if I loded the image held in flash, but can't see the point of messing about with it really as its as easy to FTP.

Thanks to all for your help with getting DVR-studio up and running. I'll be playing with it over the next few days, so as a total noob to video editing, I'll let you know how I get on!

God luck.

Regarding Nero and .TS files, they will load if you have the right codecs in the PC, but O still dont think Nero is great. Almost 4 hours to make a DVD is just too long, and it does not seem very reliable.

Burnt my first one and I thought it was perfect, but when playing it back it had a two-second-long glitch in the video and audio towards the end (looked like some pixellation and a couple of frames inserted from adjacent position in the movie). The glitch is not there in the .ts files. Problem is evident on my Tosh player, and on two ROM drives. On one machine it even caused PowerDVD 5.0 to go over.

My sort of software though. Good quality video and audio o/p, simple editing and no fancy menu stuff on the resulting disc. I'm lazy when it comes to archiving stuff off to DVD (which is what this amounts to for me) but if it's not perfect, then it's no good to me.

Got a few more options to try yet though. I'm going to persist, as this is the closest thing by far to what I want. Maybe it's not the software - I'll burn the next one at half the speed.

What really bugs me is why this code is so flippin' difficult to write?!?!?! I know that the transmission standard is none too tight, and that DVB-streams don't seem to adhere very well anyway, but it just needs to be a no-brainer.

I guess that the 'limited' market has a negative impact on development funding?!?

I don't know what spec PC you've got but I would recommend at least a P4 2.8GHz and 1GB Fast RAM (preferably more) when running any DVD or film editing software. And don't run any other software at the same time and switch off your virus checker.

Burnt a film off Ki*sk earlier and it was completely scrap. Perfect audio, totally fragged video. Suspect that this one failed due to the low original SR.

Want to try one more with a high SR and res. Problems are nothing to do with burning speed. Nero's Scandisk function reports perfect file integrity and sector reads for discs written at both 4 speed and 2 speed.

It's the demuxing process that screws up, and that's the same problem I had with PVAStrumento although I could fine tune that to about 98% quality.

My box is up to the job speed and memory wise.

Using Nero:

1) When you "Add video files", in the file-selection window, you can select multiple .ts files, so you don't need to do previously the merge operation

2) The audio-track is a bit hidden : in "Edit movie", selecting the clip property (the check just after the scissors in the icon-bar) you can choose the primary audio track

3) yes, the time is long, but I prefer to make a dvd in a single, unattended, step instead to use interactively several tools.

Obviously everyone has his preferred tools, and it's a good thing to have so many choices to do one job.

Have a nice day!

Why not? the Nero output can be to dvd, but also on hard-disk as "image recorder" or you can write to an harddisk folder.

Just reading the thread about having to join up vid files, i've just recorded for the first time as a tester a small file of 113meg on my DB and found that i could transfer this ts file as one file to PC and burn it to DVD and play it on my DVD player no probs, i don't understand why this works when there's all this talk about joining files, is there a maximum segment file size before files are seperated, not quite sure what i'm babbling on about but someone might!
Richard.

By default, DB segments a recording in 1gbyte chunks (one film is usally 3-4 files).

You can setup db to do bigger files, so you can have one recording = one file , but problems can arise after when you want to transfer these files on your PC (for example Samba don't transfer bigger files).

Joining files is not necessary for several programs which permit to select multiple input files (for example Nero, PVA....), but other programs need to have just only one input file, so people using these programs need to join them before.

If you got network with LAN to your computer you could record it streight onto your computer like I do with my 5620....no problems there with large files.

Descaler codec plays .ts files

Get descaler codec from http://www.dscaler.org
And you will be able to play all .ts files generated by your dreambox with all players and video programs.
Notice that you will have to change-rename the files from .ts to .mpg

I test it with descaler 5 and dreambox 500S and it works just fine.

Regards,
Viron.

hi,

just a quick question. If your ftp a file of about 2 gig, roughly how fast is your transfer rate? I`ve been trying to transfer a ts file to my laptop and it gonna take about 46 hours. What rate should i be expecting from my 7020?

cheers phil

Cant see the transfer rate but should only take about 5 mins 10 max with broadband connection. Make sure your firewall is not trying to block it. Switch it off and try again & close all other programmes down as this will slow down the speed too.
