Dreambox connected to wireless 3g broadband

Hi all, i am using a wireless 3g broadband to connect my dm500s to paid server. It works miraculously fine, but the problem is when my dm is idle (on standby mode) i lost the connection. And i have to start my pc (im using switch from the 3g broadband router) and start surfing any webpage then only the dm connected to the server.

What i want to know is there any plugin for dm that can ping to the router to keep it connected? or is there a router/switch with can self pinging alternately to the 3g broadband modem to keep it awake? (since the problem is the 3g broadband modem.....it shut down the broadband connection when in idle

any assistance is greatly appreciated.........

Well

The broadband routers I have set up have had an option in the firmware to either stay connected always, disconnect when traffic ceases (idle) or disconnect after a set period of time when idle.

I haven't heard of a ping plugin for the Dreambox, but you may try one of these modem keep alive programs on the PC.

Well

Currently I am using the BT home hub and it is awful, but I will no doubt be swapping back to my Linksys WAG354G, but then I do not have a dreambox to use with the router.

Sapekman,

May I know which Broadband network are you using?

I am using the 4G network (_www.izzi.com.my) and I am wondering whether I can use the DreamBox with it?

Any broadband will work, it is a matter of setting the router(and thebox) up

Let the box be online all the time, just kill the tellie.

the problem here dig deep is the weather...with frequent rain and thunderstorm im afraid i might killed the dreambox if i let it on. My previous box and router was strike by lightning spike (its connected to landline broadband )- i ground the dish and i forget the router - and the asix chip inside is burnt. Any chance using jtag could recover the image? (as i need to findout the card server data) been trying with nullmodem cable but it wont connect.......

ic...ic...
nvrmind here you can learn a lot of things...
just want to ask where did you get the dm from? and how much it is cost?
but i guess, since you want to connect it to internet most probably you are on card sharing...if not, you need not to connect it to internet..just slot in the smart card...

My System: DreamBox 500

I just bought it from Ebay at RM650 (with 12 months Astro). Still waiting for it to arrive.

According to the seller, it must be connected to the to the router.

I also purchased a BELKIN wireless range extender to connect my wireless router to the dreambox. I hope it will work.

dago bro, my question is to laotzu88 as here we have no keys to download..we have only 1 accessible satellite provider which we can beam legally.......

Laotzu88, i think i know whom you buy it from. It is a paid card server..the seller sell the dm including 1 yr server fee, thats why it cost you rm650. Normal dreambox price in our region will cost only rm380 to rm420 (china clone as dreambox didnt release new dm500s since 2006 if im not mistaken)...
Anyway Laotzu88 welcome to card sharing world...heee
hope you enjoy your new toy....
any setting problem you just pm me..ill try to help with my little knowledge...
pssst dont let your neighbor and a_tr0 knows....its illegal...sum more with latest warning frm MCMC its illegal to posses any other satellite equipment other than a_tr0...rm100,000 and 1 yr jail....takut ooh...

If he were not a wizard, from head down to the root, you would have got to worry-your DB only boots

If you're talking about CCcam, there's probably no need to update it if it works OK.

If you really must install a newer version, make a backup of cccam.cfg

Update at your own risk.

yes its true just like what mhku said...anyway i suggest before you upgrade anything, backup your image using dreamup(nullmodem cable) as it save all the preconfigure setting by the seller in case he put a password to the setting/configuration.....(mine had, lucky i install tuxbox commander and manage to reset the password)
if anything goes wrong you can flash back to the previous image/setting

configuration and setting are in var/etc, var/keys, var/tuxbox....

To backup a single file, just copy it from the Dreambox to your PC.

To backup the image (if you use Gemini) go to Blue Button ? extras/ settings > backup
