Does anyone know where pin 1 on the dreambox goes to on the pcb bord. I damaged the solder when removing the connections & am looking for another place to connect the wire to?

I got mine working. This sounds crazy but works. I put some solder on the end of the cable that i couldn't connect (wouldn't work without for some reason) then scratched the insulation off the tiny wire nearest where the original blob was on the dreambox board .Put a vice grips around one probe of the multimeter & rested this on the wire which should be on top of the tiny trace on the dreambox. Now with the other end of the multimeter scratch a little of the surface where the trace is further down & put your multimeter on continuity. Move the probe with vice grips around it until you here the beep. Once its beepeing you know you have a good connection. Pain in the arse but its the only way i could get it to work. Now I'm having trouble with the mac address generator.

The only image that boots for me is dm500_alps_boot_00_00_00_00_00_00.bin which creates a mac address of 00:00:00:00:00:00 & so i can't get online. Has anyone got the mac generator working that allows there dreambox to boot? I have flashed a file to the box using the mac generator but it doesn't boot. Do i need to unsolder the cables from the box for it to boot because with the other image there is no need?

The power suply has to be pluged intro DM instantly when you click connect on the program!

i through JTAG interface to write bootloader file in my DM500S then RS232 can be used,my DM500S working..

That´s ok now.

You have to keep trying the CONNECT/power in the power suply and try to "adjust" your react time considering the error that you have, if you get comunication error you are pluging the power suply to slow, but you should reduce the time between the CONNECT/power in the power suply.

In my case I had to repeat this process about 25 times.

i have made a new BOOTLOADER file and it's MAC address not is 000

you download it then through JTAG interface write it in you DM500S,you find your DM500S not is a clone dreambox!!

My box is alive again.
And not just alive.. it is considered "genuine" too thanks to the last blimg that bg4vhj uploaded!

Something that may be helpfull:
I had unsuccessfull results with an ibm thinkpad laptop that has a parallel port (bi-directional).
When i connected the jtag cable to a desktop pc with a parallel port (ECP+EPP) it needed only 5 tries.

i use the mac-generator to make new bootloader file with mac 00:09:34.....like your file to no have 00:00:00:00 mac and no work in this dm500 (dm500 with orange led in lan)

work only in dm500 to have the green led...

my upload file not is use the mac-generator made...it is i modify from the old bootloader file with 0000 mac address and i use this bootloader file in my DM500S
it is working now!!

I have the exact same error
ERROR: register test failed
Check your JTAG/LPT1 connection and/or adjust your voltage regulator
Any ideas??

Guys,

I missed dooms day with my clone box as i was travelling and had my DM500 with me in my suitcase! However i have now changed my MAC address using TELNET and the FORMAT option. My question is, can i now safely use my DM500 without fear...for the time being? Also how do i tell which version of Gemini Project is installed in my clone? When i go to the "About" screen in the menu it says "Software Version: release 4.2.0. 17.12.2007 Chinese language by satfan".

EDIT: when i restart the box i get the old MAC address back......is the TELNET FORMAT option only a temporary MAC change solution? How can i do it perminantly without the JTAG?

Gemini 4.20

You need to keep the init file in /etc to reset your MAC address on each restart; the other methods discussed may be more permanent but I've not tested any of the MAC address methods.
