Dreambox 500 - JTAG Information

Hello,

I had problem with my dream Box 500S and first I tried to repair with RS232 Null modem ( 2-3-2) cable and dreamup will hang with " uploading complete waiting for acknowledgement " then nothing happens.
so after much discussion came to conclusion that i need Jtag this box , I did with all instruction( please see the attachment I did all the steps and it worked till last screen) and before J tag there was red and green light in front , but after J tag only green light .
It was showing progress ( in % ) and finally it says download complete " now you can install Image.

so I tried again dream up with null modem cable but still it hangs at same position !!
When I connect box to TV with AV cable TV dosn'r recognise box
so now what could be the wrong with box ?
try to connect PC-BOX- modem I can not get all green lines so I am not able to communicate with box !!

the way I did was connect Jtag cable to JTag point in ( 16 round points ,becide comport cable ,on the base plate ) , then switch on pwer > then click on info2 ( for alps ) icon and it startedstep bu step ( see attchment ) till last screen ( when it sayd download 100 % complete , then I started dream Up with null Modem cable ( 2-3-2 ) but Dream up hang just like before J tag. !!! see the screen shot of dream up.
but no result
any new thoughts ?

I am sorry, but you did it all wrong. If you get any, any at all responce from DreamUp and Dreambox - there is no need for JTAG procedure. hen you get the mesage "waiting for acknowledge" there is a good boot in the box, but there is something wrong from the buffer... Thry flashing the box with DreamUp version just for Dm500 and change the power supply.

Hi ,
I manage to build my own jtag cable and using dreamflash 0.1 by danmark to reflash the box( I got the finish message).Than when I try to use dreamup I couldn`t turn the box on( using front botton or remote).So I try to use dreamflash again and now I get to 82% and than program close .
What now?What I`m doing wrong?

about cable jtag
i want to know we use 100 ohm or 33 ohm for resistrance and we connect it to pin 11 or pin 13 this is my fist quistion and other i we make short from pin 18 to 25 or not only direct connect cable to pin 25

100 Ohms. They go to pins 1,3,5,7,9 and 11 on the DB's pins.

Pin 25 is the actual ground connection of the printer port connector. You solder 18 -25 together to maintain a good ground condition through the printer cable.

first of all, i ant thank everybody in this forum especially in this topic. i was so happy to read everything wroten here.

i succeeded to run the DOS jitag program. i've used commands to read my dreambox information and to change my MAC address. At the end of the process i getthis:
nothing happens after that.

now i want know what should i do to write the alps flash throught DOS program.

Could you help me in this plz??

hi! have received a similar problem with the receiver. assembled cable resistors and began to try to restore Dreambox500, used the program 2alps.bat. That's what happened:
the flash .. well it come up Dreambox Dm500 board initialize
Flash info. : INTEL Unknown
[dm500] reading CA:ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff
[CA] Ho Ho! CloneWARS corrupted bootloader eh?! consider getting a IPBOX!

Hi all,
thanks for the info, I finally managed to bring my DM500 to life again.
Following a quick summary of my way doing it:
1) the 100Ohm scheme is correct, BUT cut your jtag cable as short as possible and less than 10cm in any case.
2) both win and dos initialized the cpu and flashed the box. But it seems I couldn't find the right alps image for the win prog so I used the dos one. After successful flashing with jtag_win the box just didn't want to light up, e.g. no green led.
3) I found it annoying matching the right sequence of pressing "Connect" and plugging the power cord with jtag_win, so I build a small switch with a piece of cable that worked just fine (seen on 2nd pic).
Also the LPT on my laptop didn't support ECP+EPP so I used my desktop.
4) in the dos app you can set your own MAC address by editing alps2.bat
5) If your box is alive again flash a new linux image right away. I didn't, so half an hour I had to grab the soldering iron again.
