Have you tried an FTP connection using another application?

Try connecting with Explorer. Type the following into either the windows run dialogue or the explorer address bar. (Not Internet Explorer, use the file browser.)

ftp://YourDreamIP

If that doesn't work try resetting the password by typing 'passwd' at the command prompt.

Try changing the IP's.
Is the 500 and 600 IPs the same?
Disable firewall and antivirus for a short period and try connecting with an FTP application like Core FTP Lite.
There might be security issues that are preventing the connection.

Code:

Copy the output and post it here. This will tell us if FTP is not running on its standard port.

Hi HB13Dish
I've tried wit core ftp lite and this is what i am getting, even with the flash ftp and the dcc software :

"Welcome to Core FTP, release ver 2.1, build 1607 (U) -- © 2003-2009
WinSock 2.0
Mem -- 2,097,151 KB, Virt -- 2,097,024 KB

220 Willkomen auf Ihrer Dreambox.
USER root
331 Please specify the password.
PASS **********
500 OOPS: chdir"

I switched off the firewall and all antivirus etc etc etc
and re ip addresses, both of them have static ip addresses (tried with dhcp as well)
and I already change the ip address and passwd, but no luck on the 500!!

Sorry to hear this.
I can't think of any other possible suggestion, except (I hope we can still be friends ), REFLASH the box and have a clean setup.
If you are the master of your box (meaning you are not depending on a 3rd party), then it might be worth it.
Please tell us again why do you need to FTP?

Busy box is just an environment for running commands from.

Post up a screen grab of your dreambox's network settings.

Unfortunately your running out of options. It appears a SSH server is not even running on the box, or is at least not accepting connections on the default port. The FTP problem is probably similar.

Its looking more and more like you are going to have to flash a new image to the box. Obviously you'll lose all settings if you do this.

Thanks for the info. I understand your problem better now.
Strange about VLC not showing in the Gemini server. Should be under Plugins (at least this is where I got it for my Dreambox 7000S. Can't remember which version though).
As for updating channel list, I do it the hard way with Bouquets creation, and Edit and Move options from the Menu buttons. It is dead easy once you try it.
The only times I need FTP is for copying recorded files from HDD to PC.
Never used BoxEdit or any other applications as I regard my receiver as a small computer and try to do everything using IT.
Anyway, glad to see that you never give up. I am sure that you will get there in the end with persistence and perseverance.
One more suggestion, try a direct connection between the 500S and the PC (disconnect it from the internet and router. You might need to change the IP of the box to be close to the IP of the PC Network card (not the router's). You can take a break from sh....
Also try to change the password (just for testing) to the standard values : dreambox and I understand that the user is still : root
Good luck

Thanks, there doesn't seem to be anything out of place there.

Can you give us a bit more detail as to where the box came from. Did you configure it yourself, or did it come as part of a card share deal? The reason I ask is because if the later is the case, there may have been some blocks put in place to stop users accessing these features.

I'f I think of anything else, I get back to you.

You could try doing a backup of all your settings using the built in script, then reflash and reload your settings.

On the image I have, under Blue Panel -> Extras / Setup. There is an option to create a backup. I'm not sure if the backup will include your CCcam.cfg file or not.

It being a DM500 with no local storage, you'll need to save the backup to a network drive / mount.

If you know the contents of CCcam.cfg, there is no need to run the back up at all. Just flash with a new image and load the settings from your DM600 to your DM500 using DreamboxEdit. That way you wont lose your favourites lists.

Then install CCcam and add the appropriate lines to the CCcam.cfg file.

Good morning cesco,
If you do the reflash, I would recommend to test if you can FTP to 500S with just the minimum setup with just the channel list. That is without any CCcam or plugins.
This way you will know it is doing FTP OK and then at another stage you might get a blockage. Hopefully not.
If your receiver is a clone, then you shouldn't use Gemini.
