My System: DreamBox 500s Belkin Router
No ping reply, no internet connection to DreamBox

I have recently purchases a DreamBox 500 s and after taking it home, i connected it to my router using a Cat5 cable to my Belkin FSD 9630-4
Worked for 20 minutes, switched channels, and it has stopped working since.
I set up the network manually on the dreambox, could not screen grab and my ping results range between 50% packet loss to 100% (most cases)
the communication setup is as follows
IP 192.168.2.24
netmask 255.255.255.0
Type LAN
Nameserver : same as primary DNS from my router
Gateway: 192.168.2.1

i have changed these setting to go through everything mentioned, My router address on both nameserver and gateway.
disabled firewall, Upnp on router. the moment i did this a picture showed froze, and upon rebooting didnt come back.
sometimes i check the time using internet, it works sometimes, doesnt work other times.
I have taken my dreambox to a friend who has bought the same box with the same pre-setup and used it in his house it worked perfectly without changing anysetting (except for auto-dhcp), took it back to my place didnt work.
i tried 2 other routers, a 3com WL-552, and a thomson neither changed a thing. My friends router is really old, i have no idea what it is.
My internet connection is ADSL, and when i connect the cable (same on on my dreambox) to my laptop, my laptop connects to the net, so its not the cable.
I've even placed the DreamBox in the DMZ , but no change.
I have been trying relentlessly to understand and read through the forum but to no avail so i am stuck with a device that isnt working + hair pulling (not much left)

Welcome to the forum

Have you tried swapping the CAT5 cable?

Does it work for FTA channels?

My System: DreamBox 500s Belkin Router

MHKU , i just tried another cable cat 6e, and i can ping, stil a bit of packet loss and i loaded it from IE it accessed the dream box, Yet it takes a really long time, aprox 1-2 minutes to completly load the page.

Sorry i dont know what FTA are, but if you mean the other unpaid channels, yes they work perfectly.

I was too quick to reply on the cable thing but i do remember trying before and it didnt change a thing, anyways, now i can ping and apparently my DM is on the network, yet still my paid channels are not working, i tried going to the Download addon, and it doesnt move. Is there any other info i can give you to aid?

FTA = Free To Air.

You've unticked DHCP?

Do you have any security setup on the router? Is the Dreambox IP address allowed to use the router?

Hi hussrif

I have found a similar problem with one of my dm5620's. when I connect directly thro a router response is very slow, however if I connect via a network switch then to net via router -full speed.

Perhaps if you can lay your hands on a switch you could try?

Good Luck

Var space is Free 2.2m Used 21%
Unticked DHCP , yes.
Security on the router as far as setting go are nill, i have disabled Firewall and Upnp as well (no reason for doing the upnp one just was the only other thing to disable)
As far as i have seen in my belkin router setup page there was no specific option to allow a certain IP, there are Port forwarding option and DMZ though.

Thanks, i will try to get my hand on a used switch sometime , for now im still hoping to get it to work with my equipment, i would like to understand the reason why it wont and perhaps be able to troubleshoot it.

Is the problem that your Dreambox has no internet connection?

Is the PC you're pinging with wired or wifi? Although that has no impact on the Dreambox internet connection.

Precisely, My dreambox has no internet connection.

PC i ping from is wireless. but i have just tried something else. sharing the internet from my computer to the DB using a cable, its still the same problem no internet on the dreambox.

Im really bricked on what could be the cause, i lean towards that my dreambox is just no working, but i did use it at my friends place and it worked like a charm.

mhku, I just took my spare 3com router to my friends place, i had previously tested it here and it didnt work, but surprise the dreambox works there. So far i have eliminated the problem is not from my dreambox, nor my router (since it worked in his house) and i am left only with the fact that it is something to do with my ISP.

Now the confusing part again is that we are both on the same internet provider there is only one here. so my equipment works from his house and it doesnt work in mine. My question is if i should contact my ISP what do i tell them seeing that they will not support my query if it is about a cable satellite box not working. my internet works fine, so im guesing maybe they block a port on the device? could you help me calirfy what the issue could be from the ISP?
