Newcs deleted all clients after reboot - help

I have a dm 500 with cccam+Newcs1.66 . It has been running smooth for months now. But yesterday it deleted all clients connected to newcs. Now i cant add anyone as when i type a user and click update nothing happens.

I then re-installed the whole image and download cccam+newcs1.66 again. But still newcs wont allow me to add new clients. What do i need to do here? Help a newbie good people

My System: Dreambox with PLi-Emerald 1.09 image, Matrix revolution CAS, newcamd emu, movable dish 0.85 m, very happy indeed

sounds like your box has been managed "from a distance" and you don't have the necessary access rights to edit the newcs file.....
what do you use to edit the file ? DCC (if not, you should).
what are the (unix) access rights to this file ?

i use web intervafa to edit the newcs, my IP followed by :8080 .

So in other words someone has changed everything remotely? How do i get out of this situation?

Newcs is reading card ok but thats where it ends. I cant add user , i cant delete user. When i log on via web interface i cant even see all the clients i have give N lines.

I have never used DCC before, maybe i need little help on that as well

start scanning the net for "dreambox dcc download" and install on your pc. Then run the programme and set it up to connect to your dreambox (ip - user - password). Connect and go to the FTP section. Go to the location where the newcs config file is (/var/etc ?) and look at it's attributes, if it's not 644 try to change the attributes (right mouse click > attributes). To edit the file, use a right mouse click and select edit. It's easy, really.

and to answer your second question, since you use wan sharing (obviously) you give your ip address to all of your clients. If your dreambox password is the same as the password you use for sharing, then any client with a minor knowledge of unix can access your dreambox if you have forewarded ports 80 or 8080 to your internal dreambox ip. Or 21, or 22 (ftp). And some others ....
best solution : change your dreambox password to something only you know and which is not used for any sharing connection.

thanks guys, im half way through. after using dcc i changed port to 16000 from the default 10000. but its still not taking effect. i can now add clients but no one of them is connecting because the port is stuck at 10000.

How do i go on from here?

You will need to open port 16000 in your router setup and change the port in your newcs.xml and tell your piers to change the port in their nlines to match the open port.

My System: Dreambox 7020si, Technomate TM600, Technomate TM9100 Fracarro Penta 85 Dish, Televes 0.6dB Quad lnb, TM SG2200 motor. 60cm Channel Master BSB dish on 28e, Mti Blueline 0.2db Twin Lnb. Rover ST-4 Meter Cyfra+ Subscription

My TM9100 does it sometimes after i have adjusted the settings using the web interface

Best thing to do is back up the config file on your pc before you play with the web interface.

Use DCC to check if the folder is still near enough the same size after you have altered anything in the web interface. If its size is 0 kb then you know you need to ftp the file back into the box

The box will still continue decode form the current config if it disappears up until the point that you reboot the box. It then has no file to work from and as such stops working

You can find DCC over at IHAD. You need to google IHAD

As long as you keep a backup all will be well once you have your box up and running again.

You may find this useful
