My System: Dreambox |
All, I've read through all the threads I can find on the above subject but I am still struggling to find an answer to the following: 1. How do I add another image to the original image on my box? The DM500 does not have a built in hard disk or a usb. My preference would be to use the LAN connection via my router. 2. Can I have this 'duplicate' image on my PC (for example) and reboot the dreambox via my PC everytime I want to use this alternative image? I'm hoping this would mean I don't have to touch the factory image at all. 3. I'm thinking of loading a Gemini image. Does anyone know where I can download the latest version please? I followed a couple of links from other threads but they appear dead. 4. Am I correct in thinking that once I have this alternative image, I can import new keys into it? Apologies for the 'longish' question but I am very new to this. Sincere thanks for your assistance.

Blog Entries: 1 My System: DM7020S ~ DM500s ~ sg2100 ~ Gemini ![]() If he were not a wizard, from head down to the root, you would have got to worry-your DB only boots | DM500s can only have one image. You want to try another one then you flash erase and load the new one. You can get Gemini from IHAD (i-have-a-dreambox .com) You can put var/plugins on your pc hard drive (see Idiot's Guide). The best way to get keys is find a good source and get them as needed: unzip to you pc and FTP keys to var/keys and scce to var/scce For a DM500s try newcamd (if you have a $ky FTA or sub card) and evocamd Flash it using a null modem cable from a PC or laptop Connect it to the internet using a CAT5 cable to a router (if you have one). Read the Idiot's Guide, try it, make mistakes and learn. And ask questions here But if your question is basic you'll be referred to the Idiot's Guide- and yes, we can tell by your question if you've read it or not ![]() Good Luck and welcome to our World

My System: dm500s, gemini 2.9, evocamd 2.11 vbox2, 99g motor, 80cm clear dish | This seems a good thread to post an idiot's question, so here goes, I have downloaded gemini 2.9 ready to upload to my 500s using dreamup. Next step for me is to addon evocamd. Can anyone tell me how I achieve this - is it a download from net to pc or do I get it through the dm while its connected to web via router?

Have you configured your communication setup? Welcome to the forum

My System: dm500s, gemini 2.9, evocamd 2.11 vbox2, 99g motor, 80cm clear dish | Thanks mhku, good to get quick and most helpful reply. Im really new to this. Have been using dragon 4 years and felt like an expert, but now I am very small fish in a new big sea. I have wireless netgear 4 port router set up and working and yesterday for first time accessed the dm's sw by connecting to its IP address via my laptop. Even that felt like climbing to the foothills of Everest. Now Ive downloaded Gemini 2.9 and will try to load soon. Will let u know how things go. Thanks again

My System: dm500s, gemini 2.9, evocamd 2.11 vbox2, 99g motor, 80cm clear dish | Can you tell me please when dreamup500 is attemting to connect to dm, what do you fill in for the local pc ip address. Yesterday I put the ip address of my router and when I clicked connect it all just froze, and Ive had to do a factory reset on the dm. My lan is now back working ok and I can access the dm from my laptop via the router as before. I dont have a static ip address for my pc - (which is a laptop). I am still trying to upload gemini 2.9 for the first time. I dont have null modem cable, but dreamup seems also set up for lan connection, yes?

You get your laptop IP by clicking on the network icon or the wifi icon near the clock (depends how it's set up).

My System: Dreambox 8000 HD PVR, 80cm Dish, 1.2 Compatible Motor, Quad LNB, Porty TV, Yamaha RX-V765 Amplifier, Tannoy Mercury FC Centre Speaker, 2 x Tannoy F1 Custom Speakers, 2 x Tannoy FR Custom Speakers, EPOS ELS Sub Woofer | download program's called "dreambox control centre" and "flash wizard" they will allow you to do the things you want. the flash one will allow you to put on a new image and DCC will allow you to save things onto your computer like save satellites, channel lists etc. DCC also has an option to update the current image so you dont have to erase the old 1, providing its the same type of image. Abit like upgrading from windows 98 to xp when you put an xp disk in on 98. Again all these tools can be found on a well known dreambox forum which somebody told you about in a previous post, just go to that site and press the "database" link...........the worlds your oyster dude. p.s. for cable from box to laptop/computer you need a crossover cable, whereas to a router you don't as most modern routers will switch it over for you if its not a crossover anyways.
