EPG with Dreambox600 on BSKYB

Hi,

I can only see whats on now and next in the EPG on bskyb using dreambox 600 some people i have talked to can see a week in advance on other satellites is this just the way it is for bskyb or can i do something to the box to get more from my epg????

However i have one question about installing it?The instructions say this

Installation: Copy extepg.so and extepg.cfg to the plugin dir on your dreambox (/var/tuxbox/plugins/) To make the plugin start with the red button instead of the normal epg press red button(epg) twice and select External EPG.

when i use dcc i see var/tubox/ but not plugin after that where should i ftp to an also do i need to set the file attributes to 755 or anything like that as before i had problem with not setting the correct file attribute Thanks

The directory is different in the DM600 than what they say in the instructions, I'm not at home now so I cant check which directory to use. Use a search to find it.

Use the following command in a telnet terminal to find the correct directory.

Code:

find / | grep extepg.cfg

This should find the directory where extepg.cfg file lives, so this is the directory you should be copying to, I suggest you make backups of any files you overwrite.

Other than the above, I think the rest of the instructions provided are good for a DM600.

OK Then just try a search for the plugins directory.

Code:

find / | grep plugins

If that doesn't find it then you are doing something wrong. I'll have a look tonight.

i am using this and cant get a 7 day schedule for sky m8, only BBC and some of the foreign channels. I may not have it set uo correctly but tried all sorts and could only get now and next for sky uk. There are some good ones working for Sky Italy. Is this the same type of system sky uk uses? Open I think its called. If it is I would think that someone out there will develop it for UK, or is there already one out there?

I've never seen it in action, I have no internet connection so, I only installed it to see how it worked and if I could download a file on a regular basis and load it to the Dreambox for the plugin to read. The developer said that this was not possible at present.

I've read Sly UK use OpenTV for their EPG. As yet nobody has developed a plugin that can read the data it transmits (As far as I know).

I'm hoping that someone develops a plugin that can handle the new Freesat platform EPG.

In the meantime I'm looking at alternatives using a combination of XMLTV, MV and a weekly download of an XML file,

Iam playing around with WeekEPG 2.1b at present. It has a full 7 day listing for SkyItalia, nice !

Its working with most of the sky/freesat channels as far as I see. Its a little slow, but otherwise very useful. You can set your timer with it, something you cant do with a lot of the other alternatives.

Make sure you read the manual so that you can use it to its full potential.

Weekepg 3.1 works well on a 600, I put it on my sisters box and she has had no trouble using it, works for timer recordings too which earlier versions of EPGevolution didnt, not too sure about the latest version though it may have been added. There is a weekepg 3.2 out now but cant comment on it as havent used it

Create a folder and call it plugins and then upload the files and see if that works.

I don't believe there's yet been a release for the Pli-Jade images as yet. When you try and install/use it, you just get symbol errors.

Other images do have it though.
