Setting up VLCf

Hi

I have added VLCf as a plugin to my dm600 gemini image I have searched but am unable to find instuctions anywhere as to how to setup VLC so that I can connect to it at the moment when i press the yellow button and select VLC it says no connection to server. Can anyone please outline the necessary steps to setting up VLCf please? Cheers

I had it set up on my DM-600, I cant remember the exact steps. (Nor can I check because I have no Dreambox at the minute).

If you look in your plugins folder on the dreambox, you will find an XML configuration file for VLC.

Open it up and edit the IP address, username, password etc so that that it points at the machine you are running VLC server on.

There are a few steps involved in configuring VLC on the PC end.

I had found a good guide, If I can find it again later, Ill post the link.

A nice little plugin it is .

I have managed to setup the plugin now and will describe exactly what I have done a.s.a.p. is it correct that I cannot pause a movie using VLCf plugin if i pause it pauses then just shuts down and I have to start again....?

Good Stuff.

Its a bit long winded, but I guess if it works, then good enough . Thats not quite how I did it, I didn't need to do any fiddling around with the Dreambox WebIF.

The guide I used was from the VLC wiki,

I cant say I had that problem, The only annoyance I had with it was the buffering time, it meant you couldn't easily fast-forward or rewind.

I was thinking maybe it is because I am connected wirelessly?

I doubt it, if anything, pausing would allow more time for buffering if there was a problem streaming wirelessly.

I'd say that more likely, the problem lies in the vlcf plugin itself.

Out of interest, what are you using it for? I was just using it for streaming file-types other than MPEG that the Dreambox could not handle natively, divx, wmv etc. I had not gotten around to using it for internet streams before my DB got fried.

I am also using it for that purpose to play divx, avi etc. it now cuts out randomly in the middle of the movie or if i pause it or try to fast forward it. Do you have any suggestions?

If he were not a wizard, from head down to the root, you would have got to worry-your DB only boots

I used TVersity Media Server to stream to my Dreambox. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it hung- I put it down to the PC not being man enough for the transcoding.

My PC has 2gb RAM and a 2.8 processor (so almost antique in PC terms). TVersity is free and fairly easy to setup:
