USB Stick Format and Mount for 7000S

I was running out of memory so I took rolf's advise and bought a USB memory stick Sandisk Cruzer Micro 1GB.
And since the USB connector was already used by a USB keyboard, I bought a USB 1.1 hub for four devices.

Then I started to read about how to format the stick and move the /var to it.
I read all the threads and posts, and I thought that I would use either Telnet or FlashWizard and see how it will go.
Fortunately, the Gemini 4.0 image took care of everything.
These are the steps:

Formatting

With the USB stick in, blue panel > Extras / Settings > USB-stik(Disk) formatting >
popup
Formatting USB Disk
Cruzer Micro
Start (Green Button)
Are you sure ?
Yes (Green Button)
Formatting USB Disk
Done in less than 1 minute !!!

Mount and var move

Extras / Settings > Var-Folder >
Move
from /var
To /var/mnt/usb/gemini/var
Start (Green Button)
Are You sure you want to move this
/var
to
/var/mnt/usb/gemini/var
Yes (Green Button)
Restarted Enigma

After the box restarted, I noticed that the Var-Folder disappeared from the list.

The box worked as usual.

When I tried to add a large size plugin, I didn't get the error message about not enough memory.
When the download started, the bar showed only about 2% !!!!

USB Hub

Shutdown the box
Disconnected the USB stick and connected the USB 1.1 4-way hub
Then connected the USB stick and the keyboard USB plug into the hub
Switched on the box and both the stick and keyboard working as usual.

Recording to USB stick

I would like to record with the USB stick. Didn't find anything in the menus. Only recording with HDD in the meantime.
Would appreciate a tip on howto.

Please update your profile:
Location, dish (fixed or motor.), receiver model, dish size, pointing to which satellite.

I think that the 500 doesn't have a USB slot so how are you trying to mount the Var to a USB stick ?
This is probably why the Var-Folder doesn't show in your menu.
Upgrade to Gemini 4.0 if you have an older versions.
