My System: DM7020Si+40GB, Comag FTA 2CI(Conax Cam + Card), SG2100 DiSEqC H-H, Triax 88cm, Invacom 0.3db - 28E to 30W.
Is my DM7020 clone or genuine?

Hello DM experts,

I have recently purchased my first dreambox, DM7020. After reading from other satellite boards I have come to the conclusion that I may have purchased a clone box since it was quite cheap compared to Ebay price and was delivered from China.

I have heard that a genuine DM has its mac address starts with 00-09-34-xx-xx-xx so i just done a telnet to my box and it returned 00-09-34-xx-xx-xx!
The box came with Enigma 3.x.x installed. I want to flash it with latest Gemini but still not sure if the box is genuine or clone.

Your opinions/recomendations are highly appreciated.

Regards
Rai

Stick a compact flash card in the front, get a copy of Flash Wizard PRO 6.3, format it and drop any images you want to play with onto the cf card.

You dont need to change the image on the box in this way, so if it goes tits up you switch it off, pull the card out, and switch it back on!

Thanks for the prompt response Analoguesat.

So I can even use the Gemini image and it wont kill the box if it turns out to be a clone?

Umm dont know about that - you will need to wait for one of the guys who know more about how it works under the bonnet.

In the meantime try one of the Nabilosat images, (V6 was the last decent one they did), or the PLi images are well regarded.

My System: Dreambox 7020si,SIF 1.9.4- Dreambox 800HD Nabilo BH 0.12 Netgear adsl router, 98cm Funkee on Diseqc motor, Maintaining Hummy 5400 for the old man!

If you have a 7020 clone I would be safe and not sorry.
Always put your image on USB or CF.
I always use a CVS image in the flash [ boxman ]
Now you can use any image on USB or CF [ but not gemini ]
To this day I do not understand the fascination with it.
Nabilo and SIF are far better.
Good luck

I wouldn't touch Gemini if I suspected I had a clone, neither in flash or on CF / USB.

The Gemini time bomb wrecks the boot loader. On most computers the bootloader either lives on the main storage or on an NV chip(The first few sectors of a hardisk or flash in the case of a dreambox). In this case, even if you put Gemini on CF or USB, it could still wreck the bootloader.

I cant be 100% percent sure that a dream box bootloader works in the same way as most other computers, but being a linux distrobution, I would assume it does. There has to be something in flash that can point to the image on CF for booting, this is the bootloader, so therefore I would avoid Gemini completely.

Yes it was a stupid thing to do, putting the timebomb into the Gemini.

However, it will not bomb a genuin dreambox and they still use the mac adress to find any clones. You have a genuin mac adress so it is not a clone.

Still try something else than Gemini. There are a few very good img out to try.

Not necessarily dig deep, I returned my DM600 to Dream Multimedia for repair recently and they refused to touch it saying that it was a clone. It did have what appeared to be a good MAC address. 000934*******

cheers for all your inputs guys.
I have flashed it with Pli Jade, locked a few satellites and generally messing around with the box.
I will get a CF card and try other images and see which one I like.

Yes, this could happen as there are a few programs that re-set the mac addy. Did this get wrecked by using a Gemini img ?
If so, they have found a new way to find the clones

Usually thet clones are made by the very same factory that made the original one´s. So they should work

No, It was fine with Gemini, DMM couldn't tell that it was a clone themselves, the hardware used was identical to their own. The only thing that gave it away was the serial number. Apparently it didn't comply with whatever method they have for assigning serials.
