My System: DB 7020 250GByte HD - Manhattan 100HH -1m LH dish <Network>Netgear WGE111 to Linksys 354 G router <Software> FW Pro, Dreamboxedit and Gemini 3.40 USB also using PC with Skystar 2 and DVBDream
VLC streaming problem

I use VLC 0.8.5 to stream from the Dreambox Web interface (Gemini 3.40) to other PCs attached to my router.
The quality is always good but the stream will pause every few seconds. I am sure it used to be steady.
Does anyone know what might cause this.

The Enigma Web interface is often slow and timing out so perhaps all is not well with the underlying o/s. The Dreambox itself is working fine.

Thanks

Hi Redmart

I haven't had that problem ever and am using VLC successfully to do the same as yourself.

A couple of suggestions - upgrade to the latest vlc 0.8.6 and remove all previous preferences etc. on the installation

Make sure nothing else is running in the background on the PC that might hog memory

Do you have enough PC memory?

I recently tried daftgrab with classic media player to help with another problem (search on the forum for a link) - that will pick up the stream and play it well. Try that combo to see if the problem is with vlc

Best of luck

Thanks for the reply.

I don't think there is any problem on the VLC side. I have just upgraded to the latest 0.8.6a VLC. I have 1 gig of memory and I have tested 3 different machines included Linux Fedora.
VLC streaming used to work well so maybe I changed something in the Dreambox settings. It took me ages to setup the DiSEqC rotor so I don't want to start with a new image and default settings. I use Flashwizard to copy the old settings into a new image.

I have used top to check on the processes on the Dreambox. Do any of these look suspect?

My System: DM7020

Hi redmart,

Did you test with an older Gemini version?

I changed too to the new 3.4 version and did some test... (using vlc .0.8.4a). Some times the video stream pause (few seconds). Not all times, not with all the channels...

I will try with an older Gemini version in order to check it... will come back with the result... (these days I’m really busy… maybe will take some time).

I will try too with firefox instead ie… lately I changed to ie 7.x…

Regards,
Picc

D7020, Gemini 3.4 (!), FW (CF and USB), WiFi connection over a LAN (54 Mbps)…
PC: VLC 0.8.4a, XP Pro (2G RAM, 2G Hz …) … ie 7.0 (!)

My System: Dusty Dreambox 7000s, & Sky HD.

You wont lose any of your settings if you use a usb stick. Put in a new image on it then boot into it. you will still have your motor settings and ch list as well. Sometimes I might get a few glitches on screen with some tv ch. But i find Taquill very good & no problems using vlc.

Happy Dreaming

My System: Dreambox 7020 with 120 gig hard-drive disk - running a motorised dish DM800 +DM600 +DM500 although only usually the 7020 and 800 are both on.

Redmart I have the same issue as you and I think its due to the networking abilities of some of the older model 7020's.
They give lag
