Advice on buying DM-800

I've been looking around a bit on google and the interweb and wanted to ask some questions before committing to buy one.

I am a UK Satellite user (S*y):

1.) Can this box keep the Viewing card active? With What set-up?

2.) I hear that it is possible to share your subscription card across your home network to other Dreamboxes, can it be read from a PC with whatever software (CCam, etc).

3.) Can the DM-800 grab the EPG 14 days ahead, so no XMLTV files etc. etc?

4.) I assume the DM-800 connects to a home network (ethernet), if this is true can I extract the recordings from the dreambox easily and what format are they in please (.ts, .mpg,)?

5.) I understand that I can install various different images (OS?) onto the dreambox, considering the points above, what would you recommend?

Your help is much appreciated, Thanks.

My System: Dreambox 800

It si a bit complex and I am not so specialist

1) I saw that ccam have some possibilities to setup blocker if you mean this.

3) I am using EPG which provider sent on the service but depend what they sent. I am not Sky user. There is fetures to keep and read EPG on selected services and be visible in services selection menu.

4) The box use .ts files for recordings. It is possible to share files from HDD by web interface or VLC or Partner box feature. As well as copy files to PC with FTP.

5) You should check some and use one which you prefer. I prefer Gemini image but it is definitely up to you. Using barryallen sw installed you can switch and boot different images. All images are based same Linux OS.

1: With the old Sky card, the answer is yes. With the new white cards being issued, its really still unknown and probably wont be until the swap is completed in a few months time.

2: Yes and yes. A PC is not required, but some people chose to use one for performance.

3: If you installl the Nabilosat Darkstar II image, it can download EPG over the air (A weeks worth I think). There are also other good EPG plugins like EPG-Evolution which downloads the EPG from a server.

4: Already answered.

5: As JanH says its up to you, but the fact that the Darkstar II EPG is integrated with Enigma is a big advantage.

Excellent, thank you very much!

One last question:

Is there any way of running comskip on the recordings and then have them played back using this info to skip over the commercials?

Thanks Again for clearing up these points.

You probably mean Nabilosat Black Hole, as the Darkstar II is for Enigma1 images. Whereas, Nabilosat Black Hole is for Enigma 2 images, hence for DM800

If you long press the FF or FR buttons, you can choose how many minutes forward or back you want to move.
