new to dreambox 800

hi im new to these boxes but love the challenge i suppose (new nothing of them a month ago) but in recent times i got myself the 500s and got it up and running so wanted to enjoy the hd side of things so ordered an 800hd so just have a couple of questions if anyone can help, will the set up be near enough the same as the 500s, can i use same image as that box and is it ok connecting 2 dreamboxes to the one network using the same laptop?

My System: Sky UK. FTA analogue & digital satellite from 6 fixed dishes (5E/7E/9E/10E/13E/16E/ 19E/23E/28E) Pace MSS100, Echostar IP3000VA, Technomate TM-1000D, Dreambox 7020S

Use 800 images, not those for the 500!

If you want both on the network just make sure the 800 has a unique IP address.

Mr google will give you all the info you require - its far too complicated to start explaining networking on the forum.

Its relatively simple, but networking is a bit of a black art.

Basically each item on the network has to have a unique ip address.

I have all my network equipment (laptops, dreambox, slingbox, network printers etc) set on static ip addresses. Use the router as the dhcp assigning addresses from there, set the ip's up, then put stickers on the bottom of each item to remind you what the ip address is (you WILL forget at some point!)

Its half an hours job but will save hours of confusion later.

This is my network setup:

192.168.0.1 router
192.168.0.2 Dell Dimension 5150 desktop
192.168.0.3 Compaq Evo laptop (wifi card)
192.168.0.4 Acer laptop (radio card)
192.168.0.5 Samsung colour laser
192.168.0.6 Compaq Evo laptop (ethernet port)
192.168.0.7
192.168.0.8
192.168.0.9
192.168.0.10 Dreambox 7020

192.168.0.40 reserve for DB streaming via ngrab

192.168.0.237 Slingbox

thanks man, when i set up the 500s i used the dchp method in expert setup, so for the 800 can i just use a different ip for box once in the same subnet. can all configurations stay the same in the communication set up- the netmask, nameserver, the gateway?

hey man i changed my ips to static. although i left them the way they were changed ip4 settings and manually put them in so now they cant change like the dynamic ones would. so if i connect box to network now in expert setup on box can i choose an ip once it dont clash.
