blu-ray - does the normal DVD function work?

Hi, i have just bought an 8000 which will be arriving in a few days but what i would like to know is, if i buy a slimline blu-ray re-writer then can i still use the DVD functionality of it until blu-ray is supported properly by linux?

I have heard of some results with blu-ray drives used on a Dreambox by just using the DVD function of it but i am not sure which models will work, so which model what handles both should work or theoretically should they all work?

Thanks

Sorry I can't answer that at the moment mate but I'd be very interested to know your findings. Please report anything you find out or test. Cheers.

well some guy posted a few weeks ago saying he got a Panasonic slimline blu-ray working with just the DVD part of it (not blu-ray obviously) but no audio was recorded when he played it after he put a video onto DVD, so i wondered what other results people had.

Thanks for the reply but if you know of anything then let me know guys.

Cheers
