Mars Express and Beagle (2)

For live coverage and background to the events this week

http://www.esa.int/SPECIALS/Mars_Express/

I love the 'technology' behind the release mechanism of the lander craft from mothership

A bit of blue touchpaper wrapped around a big spring.

Alls gone really smoothly so far, but the real reason is low cost, which is why its got such a low profile

The next six days are the most important, Beagle headbutts Mars on Christmas Day

Next active date seems to be the 5th January when Mars Express is in the vicinity of the lander.

Apparently Beagle 2 is now able to send multiple messages each hour, the best time (closest approach to the site) is around mid day on the 7th
