Hi m8's I wonder if anyone is aware of this device ..and why it might not be available in the UK ..
The device orrather devices come as a kit and are placed at either end of a coaxial cable..
the devices allow up to a theoretical 270 mb of data trafic ..but in practical situations a good 100mbs is claimed without problems ..
the receiver device can then be hooked up to a network switch and that 100mbs the sub divided if neccessary ..
The units are made by netgear (MCAB1001) and I would love to get my hands on one of these kits ...but can only find them available in the USA..
perhaps ..UK legislation is once again to blame .
Basically ..I already have a coaxial cable running between 2 points ...and would like to use my existing internet service at both locations ..(why pay twice ) .
The same thing could in theory be done with a wireless bridge ...but I prefer closed systems.

Hi friends ...
Just completed my second build using this fabulous 'free' linux based server software ..
Keep in mind I know little about linux ...but its a doddle to set up ..even for a novice ..
You can use any old pc you have lying around ...
I currently am using a mobo I had lying in a drawer ...and is now fitted with 2 x 4 port sata control cards ..
so in combination with the 2 onboard mobo sata ports ..and the 2 onboard ide ports ..
..I now have access to a 'theoretical' 12 hard drives ..
I use ide zero.. for the o/s ..
..leaving the other ports free for media tank storage ..
Currently using 6 x 1TB sata hard drives and a 550watt psu ..the system runs beautifully ..and has expansion possibilities for the future ..
I cannot recommend this software enough ..
..and hope someone else can benefit from this info..

Quote:Microsoft will issue its biggest ever security update on 13 October.

The update will include 13 bulletins that between them tackle 34 vulnerabilities.

Microsoft said that eight of the bulletins were rated as critical - the most serious sort of vulnerability.

To prevent any of these updates causing problems with your system and software programs, may I suggest that you turn off Automatic Updates and wait until Wednesday and, using Internet Explorer, go to MS Updates and click Custom.
Then install just two of the updates (make a note of the KB numbers) and reboot and see how your computer runs.
If OK then repeat and get another two.

Any problem, go straight to Add/Remove section and remove the last two that you downloaded.
Then proceed with two more until they have all downloaded and installed.

It is a labourious job but better to know that if any of them causes problems, which ones it was.

Safe Updating.

13 bulletins on the 13th may be an omen,
Remember to reset your update settings when you are happy with this lot.
