Hello again,

My system and location are as summarised in my profile details.

I've seen a topic similar to my query here, namely 'Technomate receivers', but decided to post a fresh topic in case it derailed the OP there.

For a long time, I've doubted my installation in that I can't receive, or can't consistently receive, certain frequencies which Lyngsat's details suggest I should be able to.

Is there a set of frequencies I can try tuning to, which should give a good idea of where any problem may lie?

I appreciate my TM receiver may be faulty, but I could dig out a Vantage receiver to compare results.

Alternatively, should I buy some kind of metering tool (for use indoors) before looking into any of this? If so, could it drive an external DiSEqC switch?

Thanks for any expert advice,
Lee

edit: I considered first, but in hindsight, have I posted this in the wrong forum?

I am thinking seriously about switching from Freeview to Freesat, as our Freeview signal is marginal and some channels break up all the time.

The system I'm looking at is the Humax Foxsat twin receiver with HD, and our existing HD ready TV. I understand that to watch one channel while recording another I need 2 cables from the dish, but what I need to know is how to set up a second TV in another room. This would have our existing (analogue) DVD recorder connected to it. Do I need another Freesat box for this, or can I use the Humax Foxsat output? If I need another FreeSat box, do I need to get a dish with more than 2 cable connections?

Sorry If this all a bit basic, but good advice seems hard to come by, and I've learned not to trust retail outlets as they only want to sell you their stock, even if its obsolete (been there and bought that teashirt once).

Thanks

Hello everyone,

The subject line summarises my query, but to flesh it out...

I have tried a few receivers over recent years, and none have satisfied me. It gets tiresome waiting for that elusive firmware upgrade to finally fix problems or significantly improve the firmware.

I currently have a Technomate TM 6900 HD Combo Super, which whilst quite good, has a number of bugs which Technomate seem in no hurry to fix.

So, which satellite receiver do you have which matches all the following requirements:

SD and HD reception (presumably HD only from satellite, not yet UK Terrestrial Digital HD);

Terrestrial Digital SD reception in the UK
(must be capable of tuning time shared channels without removing channels not on air at the time of the scan);

SCART, HDMI, S-Video, Video+RCA(phono) inputs/outputs;

Built in card reader(s) and embedded decryption of a major encryption type, eg Viaccess, Irdeto;

Stable manufacturer firmware available with no perceptible bugs, whether intermittent or otherwise;

Accurate tuner capable of tuning and stable locking to all signals of moderate strength/quality
(I know other non receiver factors can affect this, but I mean you don't suspect the tuner is unreasonably failing to tune or lock on some signals/frequencies);

A free feature-rich and stable channel editor is available, specifically designed for this receiver model, whether supplied by the manufacturer or somebody else.
(for use via RS232/serial and/or USB)

So, do you have a receiver you can recommend?

Many thanks,
Lee
UK

PS I don't do or have any desire to undertake Card Sharing, and very little is now open via patches and softcams, so I can happily sacrifice any known support for these issues, if it means my list of requirements is met.
(That last part sounds a bit sinister doesn't it, but you get the idea ...)

As a result, I'm thinking of getting the Topfield TMS SRP-2100, which seems a pretty good bit of kit.

Before I take the plunge, I thought I'd as all you gurus what you think of this STB, and if I should go for it or another type of STB in this price range.

Basically, I am after an integrated Hard Disk, FTP server, the ability to tune PIDs (so I can get ITV HD for example), and a nice easy to use GUI).
Cheers,

Hi i'm new to the site and new to the satellite tv world. i installed a free to air system for a mate the other day and was simple fitted dish, ran cable and pointed it at Astra 28, scanned for channels and job done!

But i now want to install a system in my own house, i have been offered a system as follows for a decent price.... Dish, 3x LNB's, rail and a Protek 9600ip. I was going to install and point to Astra 19, 28 and hot-bird.

I want as many stations as possible ..mainly the ones you get with your sky box...not the sky sports and movies...but all the others and mainly the Discovery channels ( ie Shed, Turbo and real time). Which the seller assures me i will get when i connect it to the Internet. He also said i will get loads of premier packages including the canal package for free too??

Anyway please excuse my ignorance, but if you could set me strait/ give any advice you may have ! Thanks Daniel:)

Hi

Its my first post on this forum, so if this is in the wrong section i do apologies.

I have a mortised dish with a ID digital CI-20E satellite receiver. Every couple of months the satellite would loose signals on the Chanel and they needed a little turning of the dish to re tune them and i would do this regularly with no problem.

Now i have developed a new problem, when i store channels with with the satellite in one position(lets say far east) and no problem, when i try to re tune other Chanel's in another position(say far west) no problem again it stores all the Chanel's on a search. But when i go back to any Chanel that requires the dish to move from its current position it forgets their position. so basically its become like a stationary satellite.

I dont have the manual for the satellite receiver but have tried every conceivable option and after many months of trying i am fed up.

I even bought a cable of the Internet to try and update the firmware but for some reason the computer(or the software) does not recognise the satellite. So i cant take it anymore and want a new satellite receiver.

Only thing is that i am a noob at this stuff, lol, need a satellite to pick up channels on hotbird/kopernicus and Voice of America specifically
so want it to be a good system, i don't need fancy recording on HD services and need to be HUMAX in £100-£150 range lower the better.

Must be able to store different satellite positions(be able to move my motorised dish) and their respective Chanel's, lol

HUMAX PVR9150T or Humax Freesat Foxsat any good?

Sorry for the very long and tedious post, any help would be much appreciated.

thank you

regards

- Although my USB PVR connection is working fine I get no response if I connect an e-Sata drive cable. I had thought of this as an alternative to USB?
- My EPG on FTA channels is distinctly lacking content. Most channels show No Information. Is this typical of these receivers? The Sky box attached via the loopthrough LNB shows all the usual information.

Otherwise it is working well. SAT changes are very fast through the TM-2300 motor and the upscaling clearly works to improve picture quality as against the SKY SD box.

Just 'Google' "DVB-STB Rev 1.2" (including inverted commas) and take the first hit.

The English translation is a nightmare to use, as you'll find out. <eg>

The good news is that the instructions live up to the British stereotype of Germans insisting on perfection in their technical creations.

The photography is superb and the instructions are concise and clear.
Hope someone has use for this.

I have had the above silver receiver for years and years and yesterday all of a sudden when coming out of standby the led display constantly displays a revolving line in a circle. I gather from reading up it may be the psu. I have come to the conclusion it will probably cost too much to repair so I welcome suggestions on what equivalent replacement receiver to purchase. I have tried removing power from the unit overnight. I've never used anything in the camslots.

Any new receiver must be able to move my dish. Not interested in cam slots although it might be a bonus to have irdeto or future possible subscriptions. What's my cheapest soultion ? ideally watching free digital (only) channels from hotbird and hellas sat.

I currently also have the pace hd box wired off a lnb splitter so sometimes I would move my dish to astra and use the pace hd box simply to pick up bbc hd. This would not change no matter what receiver I buy, but just thought I would mention it.

My apologies if this isn't the right forum, but it's about as close as I could find.

I reckon I've spent at least 8 hours trying to work out what my receiver is before posting here, so please be gentle with this sat-newbie. ;-)

I found my Galaxis brick dumped and bought a stone-age Sky dish (with LNB) for a fiver. I finally got round to buying some cable and connectors off Ebay and a screech-owl sat-finder to point the dish. This 'state of the art' setup now proudly perches on my fan stand. Sorry if I've made you all jealous. ;)

It seems like an IQg Matrix S, but I think that uses an ARM7 CPU. Anyway, here's what might help...

2 CI
1 card slot
3 SCART
LNB In
LNB Out
RS232 serial port
SPDIF plus L and R audio sockets
RF In (Belling F)
RF Out (Belling M)
The "CE" label number is JSTV 1901492207003063
Power socket "42W Max"
nb. It's all black and the power switch and "DV3" on the door in front are both bottom left.

Inside...

Motherboard etched "DVB-STB Rev 1.2"
CPU Texas TMX320AV7111GFN
PSU "Astec Model AA21500"
Tuner "BSRV2-305A"

I found it preset with channels from Astra 1, Astra2 and Hot Bird. Those I can pick up through the trees are fine. It would be fun to have a remote for it though -and maybe even a manual!

If anyone can help me identify it, I'd be really grateful. After all, until I've screwed up flashing it, I'll have no incentive to buy a Humax. :-)

Any subjective info about it would be appreciated too. eg, sensitivity, tweakability, versatility.

Many thanks if you've read this far -.and are still awake.

Cheers,

Hi all!

Firstly I cannot see a general discussion forum for recievers, this seems to be the general discussion forum, hopeful I have posted this in an appropriate place!

I pay a Sky multiroom sub to my Dad, who is a full Sky subscriber. I didn't want to pay Sky £150 for their Sky+ a couple of years ago so I went for the standard Sky box.

What I want to do for now is get a reciever that can use the new Sky white card and show my encrypted channels I have paid for. I want a box that can work a motor dish, as in a few years I may get one when I own my own house.

I have been looking at a Dreambox and a TM600 but I am unsure if they have dual tuners, do they have dual tuners?

I could always feed the TM600 into my HTPC and use my HVR-3000 TV card but by the looks of the TV guide in MCE it would be a total mess.

What boxes are there that have 2 DVB-S tuners, maybe HD, and can have a HDD to record.

The reason I am wanting to buy this is to record my TV shows on Sky, copy them to my PC, delete the adverts, convert the file to avi and store it on my debian server.

What do you people recommend?

Hello everyone,
ok so im a total noob when it comes to sat tv, even though i've been watching it since I was a kid.
Im currently in a new appartment that has sat tv and i'm trying to make a yu-ma-tu receiver work, with no results.
I was told by others in the building it should work fine, just plug it in and watch. But apparently it gets no signal at all.
I've tryed connecting it to both "loop" and that other one on top of it, but still no results.
It has 2 percentage bars and they are both at zero.
Any help? I'm not sure i gave enough info so if you have any questions ill be happy to answer.
Thanks in advance!
