Hi, to all. This is my first post here so forgive me if this is the wrong section. Admins, feel free to move this post to a more appropriate section.

To my problem.
I live in London and have a Sky minidish with a sky Quad LNB that I have purchased recently from ,Amazon.co.uk. Also I have a clone Dreambox 500 conected to this setup which I am using this to watch Freesat.
My SNR shows 91%, AGC 90% and Ber 0%, which I would think makes for a pretty strong reception. However, I get those horrible horizontal black lines made of cubes (I don' know their techical name) quite often, even in a good weather. This ruins the whole experience for me.

Can somebody help me with fixing this problem?

Is the dish too small, or is the LNB not good enough, or is it maybe the receiver?

As far as dish alignment is concerned I have used a dish meter and I can't get a higher reading than the one I have.

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers.

Hi All,
A few years ago I bought a Lidl Silver Crest SL65 receiver & dish set, it worked fine but I could only get foreign language channels (set up to Astra 1B,19.2) so I stuffed it in the attic and fogot it. I have recently bought a cheapo kit from B&Q (made by Ross). I have set this up to the astra 2, 28.2 satellite and I have a good signal and can view the crop of FTA channels. However the Ross receiver is very basic and the EPG is very poor so I decided to try the old SL65 receiver. The automatic search has brought up all the Astra 2 channels and I have saved them when offered the option but I cannot view them. The info bar across the bottom of the screen still says Astra 1B or Hotbird 1.3. I have tried to delete these satellites and add the Astra 28 east option, all to no avail! The Astra 2 signal is at 82% so I feel that I should be able to get the crop of FTA channels. Does anyone know what I'm not doing??

Thanks in anticipation!

Am still confused about receivers.
I like the look of the Technomate 3150 as it is cheap and has the possibilty of recording to disc, will this receiver suit Freesat and will it show the 7 day programme guide, or will I have to use a specific receiver for this option? (like the Bush or Grundig on the Freesat site).
I am working to a budget, so the Humax Foxsat that everyone seems to like, is not an option.
Also, 60 or 80 cm dish?
Sorry if these questions seem basic, but the only way to learn is to ask!!!!!!!!!
Cheers

Hi all:

I'm a complete novice with satellite systems, as I'm a Virgin Media cable subscriber, but have decided to treat ourselves with a Freesat HD TV for Xmas. At my caravan in the Yorkshire Dales we have a very old Sky Freesat setup, but the card is expiring, and rather than buying a new one, I decided to get one of the Labgear Free to air Satellite kit from screwfix. I thought I would test this at home using my son's old Sky dish, which works fine with a Sky box. I set it to Astra 2B and did an automatic search and got 300+ TV channels & 100+ radio channels....Brilliant I thought....HOWEVER....when I check them I don't have any BBC channels (apart from just about every BBC1 area going), Channel 4 (although I do have loads of Channel 4+1s) or Five.

What am I doing wrong?

Have decided on SD for present as there does not seem to be many HD stations at present and I know there are a lot of Freesat receivers out there, so it is just a case of comparing specs and deciding which I want. However, Any help/advice would not be rejected!!!!!!!!!!!!
But the installation?
The hardest part seems to be the cableing, so as I live in Dublin and have no dish but do have NTL cable tv, can I use their cable (ordinary coax) from outside into the house for either the dish or digital aerial that I will have to erect to get my basic local stations, (RTE1,2, etc)?
There seems to be a huge range of dish sizes, so which would be best?
Also, what zone would I need 1 or 2?
There is one advertised on e-bay with a quad LNB fo £39.95, which seems good value as I want to do 2 rooms. I also have a Humax Freesat recorder in the second room which can independently receive Freesat and make Freesat recordings using it's own LNB..

In the first room I also have a Freesat receiver, which, when the Sky+ box is not linked up, receives Freesat perfectly. I have not been able to devise a method of linking up the Freesat box and the Sky+ box both at the same time. This would be useful so that Sky can be watched in the second room and Freesat watched in the first room.

Is this possible and how can it be done. Any tips would be appreciated.

My problem is more annoying than anything else.
Since Yesterday my BBC 1 station of choice on position 101 has vanished
It states No or Bad signal.
In fact none of the BBC1 England channels work at all including the BBC HD channel :-rofl2
....BBC Wales Northern Ireland and Scotland do work though?
I have set it to Factory default.
and have rescanned etc....still nothing.
If in the wind had moved the dish, the other stations would have gone too, wouldn't they?
Look forward to some solutions.
Thanks

I see that Freesat is to have some direct competion starting next February. It's called Real Digital and has a similar channel lineup to Freesat but with the addition of pay to view channels. You can find details of this at _www.realdigitaltv.com
