Channel 4 Freesat reception problem

I have two digiboxes, one is an older Grundig and the other a Panasonic Sky Digibox 2.1.W. Recently, I noticed that Channel 4 reception on the Panasonic is getting very poor, with lots of pixelation and picture freezes. However, the Grundig box is working fine.

I have just put a new Sky card in the Panasonic, as I've been getting lots of on-screen prompts that I needed to hand over £20 for a new card, failing which some channels would no longer be available. I had wondered if this might be the cause of the Channel 4 problem, but since putting the new card in there has been no improvement.

I've checked the signal and both the strength and quality bars are showing strong reception. I also checked the cable to the Panasonic, which looks OK. The dish ( a standard Sky mini-dish) also seems OK and hasn't been moved.

So I'm left somewhat baffled. If I'm getting a good signal and most of the other channels are coming in loud and clear, why is Channel 4 suddenly not working too well?

sky appears to have beaten off any attempt of the uk govt trying to stop them haveing complete control of the sports watching market. in particular footie (premiership) rugby and cricket and boxing .
With sentanta going broke and ESPN (which i think one of there shareholders is sky/fox) as well as walt disney.. what a bloody farce it is. hold on dont it break govt guildlines ?
What is the govt going to do about it ,before everything in regards to main sports is on sky )pay to view). ahhh nothing ?
Why do we still pay for a tv licence yet we have to in majority of cases have to pay to view. (ie ESPN and sky).
Freesat is still in its infancy and its taken a long while to sort out quality watching.
Freeview will one day go HD but because of the recession HD has been put on hold until probably 2012.
Hopefully for the olympics there will be several dedicated free HD channels showing live events.
I think further intervention by the govt is to put the screws on Sky and pay to view tv as a whole. would certainly like to see more of our licence money going to freeview and freesat rather than the BBC ,who have been accused of bad management and wasteing tax payers money.
Now i hear ITV and possible CH4 and CH5 money will be given to them.

Yes i would admit i have sky this mainly because we live in a poor reception area (as the digital transmissions still have problems ).

Offcourse in the next few years the govt(new govt) will be putting up for tender the old frequencies that annolgue tv is useing . it is thought that the govt will make well over 3 billion on the sale of these.
some of this money will be ploughed into the HD service which i would think by 2015 will HD only . and 3D will be introduced very soon ..
Think that sky intend to push there 3D service well before this .(to include on demand games )I have heard 3d tv sets will be out next year(for the games market only) whether sky goes into the market is a matter of opinion (recession).

Sky has a Disability Department where you can register with them as being a disabled user. I emailed them to ask for their free Sky remote control designed for disabled users. I didn't get any response so I phoned Sky and spoke to an adviser who could help me get one of these eg for a standard Sky box or a Sky + box. So I requested the Sky + box remote control and it was delivered a few days later. I saved about £10 to £15 on that.

Over the last 6 months, my return to Sky discount saved me £100 and after 6 months I phoned Sky and asked for another discount to help me keep Sky Movies. I got an extra discount till the end of the 12-months contract and saved £44. That's £12 a month saved.

Now Sky are offering a free Sky + HD box according to the November 2009 magazine. I'd like HD quality, but unless I get a discount, it's a bit much what with a Colour TV licence and getting a TV with HD options!

Maybe Sky can help yet again, but it has to be another phone call as they didn't phone me back! I can't think why...

Can anyone suggest an alternative to the Sky Gnome. Any alternative needs to be able to connect to a Freesat or a Sky box, be wireless and be capable of operating the satellite receiver remotely, as per the Gnome. A couple of makes and models would be appreciated.

Hi,
I'm new to this so pardon my ignorance.I was looking at as previous installed a Silvercrest SL65 freeview lidl box, never worked. I aligned the dish using the beep ,had no compass or sat finder,i got i very high pitch sound and signal intensity up to 97% and quality up to 70% on astra 28.2,but every couple of seconds the signal would drop to zero for a mili second then back to 97%.No picture is available on the preset channels. Is this normal or has anyone else come across this problem?? I have confirmed the f connectors are good from LMB to reciever, could it be i am just on the edge finding a satellite/not the correct satellite as i am not 100% sure of the actual dish orienation; if so that could be a problem based on where the dish has been installed, wall to the left; or could a faulty reciever cause the signal to drop for a mili second.. any ideas would be appreciated....thanks
