Fibo Gregorian - alternative motor setups

Hi guys

I have a Philips 90cm gregorian dish slightly dented(kids throwing bricks across neighbours garden.
But my dish still performs well for its age.
I have a grey nokia 90cm slightly dented also.....used as spares now..
Any chance we can get a sticky going on all the different possible alternative motor setups and a bit on the pros and cons of each mod.
Over the years many of you might have seen different combinations used with dish brackets and motors etc...
I have a nice website in my favourites that show a Fibo dish with HH Jaeger style polarmount welded onto an old Channel Master polarmount in order to obtain north/south inclined orbit tracking with dedicated actuator.
If the admins allow ...I will post the url with there permission.
As you can tell I now have a new receiver so the 36v positioner thing is annoying me....
I think I will for the time being use a superjack vboxII as to getting it working thats a different story.
My options are do the reed switch mod as found in these forums or just find a 5v line on the superjack main PCB.

Good idea

I use a ASTON 103 box same as V-BOX only with the 5Volt insite. for power suply the 36 Fibo motor's

Not sure how you intend to drive the vbox - the Echostar doesn't have the necessary Diseqc functions.

Do you have another suitable STB which you mean to drive a seperate motor for inclined orbit operation?

- 5 volt jou pick it off JP3.
- Remove R3 and make a non resitend wire for it.

Ready thats all to do bring 5V outside so that it not connect with the massa ar metal from the box and running it.

Hi guys.

I should of explained a bit more in my posts.
I now have a dreambox 7020 and considering any alternative than having to use my old Echostar ad3000ipva to move the dish.
I have my eye on getting a superjack vboxII positioner.
I just cant make my mind up.....do I mod the 36v motor or mod a vboxII.
For me it looks easier to just cut the resistor and run a 5v wire out out of the vboxII to the 36v motor.

Why use the original Fibo motor?

It sucks and you are much better off installing a Jaeger SMR1224 to the dish like i did, i even gave away my old Fibo motor for free.

The only thing good with the Fibos are just the antennas.

Hi Likvid

Your dish looks awesome.
While I like your dish....I think the motor is a quite expensive and maybe a little bit noisy.
I know its professional 36v type.
I was looking for a solution to use DiSEqC type motor.
You see I would require a vboxII and a Jaeger Superjack SMR1224 Thats the best part of £200 if not more depending whether I would use the smr1224 EL type motor and Postage and Packaging etc....
I suppose I could make a start and just get the vboxII for now.
Then safe up for the SMR1224....
This is why we need admins to create a sticky with different options that could be used for this dish.Some ideas from the past and new ones,would be helpful.
I live in W.Yorks area and I have tried to get sat installers to help out on this...nobody wants to help....its all about time and money,its not a sly install.
You guys on here with your Fibo dishes are the only ones that understands about these great sat dishes.

Is this a picture of your Fibo gregorian dish?
Any chance you can explain a little further of the parts used etc....
I can see how this motor modification works.
It doesnt look as rock solid as Likvid setup.

Here is a 1.2m Fibo on 1224 motor.

Not my dish, but I am going to get one, when I have funds, got a few projects on the go 1st

Here is another 1.2m Fibo on a Channel master polar mount. I quite like this idea. Cheaper way of motorizing than the 1224. It also has incline orbit tracking

This mod is a bit on the rough side, but it gives you an idea of how it could be done, with the original Fibo polar mount and butchered T & K`s

Hi CROSSBONES

Some very nice pictures there m8.
I must admit the 1224 motor,looks a tidier install.
The hardest bit looks like fitting the backplate.
I wonder what difference it would make being able to elevate dish as well as moving H TO H
I wonder if 5 east sirius would be better signal on those viasat channels.
Its always strange why those channels vanish when the sun goes down...
I always think the Fibo gregorian dishes work best with this satellite.
I have a friend who lives down the road from me,hes got a 1m dish,so slightly bigger than mine.
He struggles on a good day with 5e sirius.
Thats one of the main reasons why I wont part with my dish.

My 120cm on a 1224 motor, modded origional Fibo steel plates and 1224 plates to give minimum overhang on the motor.

my 90cm backplate would look like Likvid setup.....if I could afford it.
I must admit johnsattuk your 120 cm with modified backplate looks really good.
Its a shame the 90cm backplates was not the same.
Or can you modify the 90cm backplate to look like yours.

Johns Fibo reminds me of the large Andrew dishes at the back with large holes around the backside of the rim.

My friend in Austria got a nice Fibo 120 with a Jaeger 1224 and the original backplate, see below.

The 90cm is not in use at the moment, but is just standard Fibo.

The 55cm is waiting to go on the wall after I mount my 120cm higher up the wall. My daughter has moved into a house which needs lots of jobs

so can't get doing any interesting things

.

I have coated the back of the 120cm with sound deadening stuff, and then I have tried to match the wall colour with hammerite

So your daughter is taking the second Fibo 55cm you have?

John, can you take a picture from the front of the Fibo 120, i can see it slightly in the background but it looks damn nice in that color the little i can see....

I have on my 120Cm the old orginal system can i have problems with that???

My 90 Cm are running o.k. with orginal system so i hope the 120 also.

I have used scotchbrite on the front face to take the shine off, more a matt finish like the bricks. I found the colour matching a bit tricky, as the texture changes the look of it, also the ambient light changes the appearance.
I have just taken this pic. 20:15 approx. and the bricks look much redder than they are. In the middle of the day the match is much better.

I also ran my 120cm with the original mount without any problems, and I quite liked the setup. I only changed because I was offered a faulty 1224 EL motor very cheap, and couldn't resist the opportunity to play.

Original back plate???

Actually the picture is a bit dark to see how the 1224 adapter plate is connected to the FIBO

Anyone know where can I buy the original back plate for the Fibo 120cm which works with the Jaeger 1224??

That will save me the trouble and time getting another mount modified for the same purpose of fitting the 1224 to the Fibo 120cm...
