My System: Fortec Star Passion + Diablo 2.3
Fortec Star Passion+

Hi
Wondered if anyone could help on this as i am a newbie.

I bought the a Fortec Star Passion+ receiver and dish last week from Maplins.

I have connected it to an exisiting Sky dish and am aware that when i put up the dish, 60cm, that came with it that i will be able to get more channels.

I havent got C4 or C5 .. how do i get this? I was under the understanding that this was already up and running. I am on Astra 2A.

Would i be able to decrypt channels using this receiver at all?

Can i split the connection so that i can view it in 4 rooms? I have a 4 way splitter.

Help please

Hi Sandii, welcome to the forum.

You won't receive any more channels using you 60cm dish than you are now if you are pointing it at the same location.

Ch4 is FTA now. Scan in the latest TP (check it out here -

_http://en.kingofsat.net/tv-28.2E.php

CH5 is encrypted in Videoguard, but is FTV if you obtain a CAM for your Passion+ (Diablo or Dragon/TRex) and programme it with the appropriate file to use a Sky card.

The Cam will allow you to decrypt certain providers on other satellites, but not on Astra 2.

What splitter have you got?

If you want to view different channels in 4 rooms all at the same time you need to replace the lnb with a quad and run four separate cables to the 4 locations.

OK if you want to watch the same channel on four different TV's. Watch the cable length though, composite signals tend to lose quality on long lengths (only a 1v signal, chroma deteriorates fast).

No other way without a card, CH5 may become FTA later, still bound by contract.

Topper means using a quad LNB to feed separate digital receivers, not TV's if that is your intention.

Thx Llew.
I sure you have heard this b4, but can any CAM be scrambled. I understand that it is not illegal to decrypt. Is this right

Cams such as the Diablo and Dragon enable encrypted channels to be decrypted by the receiver - if they have a provider's (subscribed) card inserted, for example a Sky card as mentioned before. That's not illegal, or at least there's an element of laissez faire as far as Sky is concerned.

As I said, they can also be programmed to decrypt other providers' channels without using a subscribed smartcard, and that's doing the provider out of his much needed revenue

Hi Llew,
Tx for that. Dumb question coming up again... sorry.
I have an old Sly card can i use that in the CAM or will i have to get it activated?
Can i then decrypt channels and use this card or will i need a smartcard and have to download the necessary info.

No there is no free sky TV, it is totally secure on the satellite platform, what Llew is suggesting is watching sky that you are subscribing to using a cam in your stb or watching FTV channels and freesat but you do not need a card for freesat

You seem to be deliberately evading answering the question, for the last time which channel?

I am not deliberately evading the question thank you. There are several channels that come up as scrambled program,s e.g. Dicovery 1+1. How can i unscramble these kind of programs.

Sandii, go back to the beginning of the thread and read thoroughly, particularly the posts explaining the need for a CAM and valid sky card in your receiver.

Do Sky think they are winning anything with these tie-in contracts?

I can only speak for myself, but I am permanently avoiding Sky just out of principle on what they did with Ch4 + Ch5

Now that the economy means people will have far less leisure-money for a while, they need all the goodwill they can get.

My System: Sky UK. FTA analogue & digital satellite from 6 fixed dishes (5E/7E/9E/10E/13E/16E/ 19E/23E/28E) Pace MSS100, Echostar IP3000VA, Technomate TM-1000D, Dreambox 7020S

The last noble sat warrior to fly the olden flag of Analogue

Remember C4, C5 and all the others quite happily signed those long tie in contracts 4 or 5 years ago - nobody forced the channels to sign them. The UK satellite scene has altered drastically since then but thats not Sky's fault.

A contract is a contract - ask any lawyer - and Sky have every right to enforce the terms of any freely signed contract.

No doubt all the channels could buy out their encryption contracts if they so desired, and if the money on the table was right, but it wont be worth it.

Analoguesat's message to the world
Analogue forever!
