PS: I've also been told by the guys at fortec UK wait untill june 2007 as apparantley maplins have been allocated most of that months stock, and therefore will be running a special offer on the new "Passion HD" reciever.

They also have one on stock now abiet a different lesser model but not the new "Passion HD" but a FTA model check it out!!.

Be wary of rushing in and buying first runs of Fortecstar STBs. I bought the Fortec 5100 Ultra and discovered there was no Scart RGB connection - despite being sold as a European model, it was obviously intended for the NA market, where this facility is not used (not a software issue - no RGB out on the CPU).

In my experience, Fortec churn out new STB's and variations on existing models like there's no tomorrow, with corresponding lack of aftermarket support. To date, they have 36 different Fortec receivers, many of which do not have any kind of recent software updates.

Whilst i agree that there were issues with some fortec recievers i believe this was solved with a software update?, and in any case with HD- scart RGB outputs are not really an issue now are they?.

Regards.

Not with the 5100 I have. The mobo didn't have the necessary track connections to the Scart. Maybe later 5100 boxes had a different board.

Hi there again!-if you look at the specs for the "HD Passion" you will see that it too does'nt have an RGB output for TV etc,it has though an RGB input on the VCR scart?.

They fortec are also working on the ability to connect an external drive via it's front mounted USB port making it capable of recording HD/SD content!!.

Regards.

I notice it uses the STi7100 CPU. STi chips have been very accommodating to patching and jtagging - maybe scope for some unofficial software in the future?

Nothing doing at the moment. A version of the Passion will be available in the US soon, the guys over there will no doubt be checking its possibilities for patching. I think it'll be using a different chipset though to cater for the different HD system there.
