hi rd100 just a few questions
1..when you say upscale from 4.2.2 do you mean it picks the 4.2.2 feed up same as my qualitv receiver used to do or do you mean something else
2... have you tried the firmware with a 4.2.2 feed
3 do you think its better than the topfield hd receiver that i currently have
cheers iwol

I've just received one of these boxes. I'll do a comparison with my Humax HD re ease of use, picture quality etc., and if I like it, possibly sell the Humax on fleabay.

Not looping through anything Pete, have a priority switch between the Fortec and TD for three dishes plus motorised into a 4 -port diseqC switch.

First impressions (10 minute check) to a Sony Bravia LCD TV are very favourable, cleaner picture with HD and SD than the Humax. Faster channel change, still working through the menu system, always a little confusing with new boxes.

Haven't had time to check today m8, but I understand Fortec are working on a beta software release that will enable 4:2:2.

There is a new beta release v.101/2 (26/06/07) I found on another site, will try it tomorrow.

The Vantage HD 7100 I saw on Dr Dish looks very interesting.
Released in August the blind scan on the Vantages is second to none , would be interesting to see if they include this feature on the HD machine.

Looking good iwol, had another play today. Still need to get my head around the menu system though

First, no 4:2:2 with the last s/w update, Fortec Holland are working on this (possibly blind scan too).

I particularly like the USB facility for uploading software and saving channel lists, better than having to take the box to your PC. Humax would do well to utilise their USB for these functions.

The last satellite list uploaded with the last software is very up to date - even has H/B 9E included.

Channel scans are very fast. Hotbird scanned in 5 minutes.

Cool in operation, unlike the Humax.

Power switch on the front is a bonus.

Diablo cam works ok, although I can only open Prem*ere ATM, I think I need to update the Stealth file.

Further price Reduction...

This receiver has now been reduced to £149 at Maplin so unless it is a complete chocolate fireguard seems a deal too good to miss.

Any news on forthcoming software updates and what addditional features we may see??

Was the 4:2:2 and Blind scan just a rumour?

Nothing confirmed yet on your last query, but I bought the Fortec because there is more activity on the firmware front coming from beta firmware suppliers compared to the likes of Humax.

Remember this STB was only available from just over a month ago - expect more upgrades in the coming weeks.

Check out Laurals.net for latest software.

That's the only reference I've seen to its scaling ability too. No mention on the Fortec site in their spec to it.

However, the STi7100 processor has the ability to upscale, but to be honest, SD quality through HDMI seems just that, whichever resolution I choose in the Passion's TV settings, be it HDMI, 720p etc.

It's a good picture though on SD channels, better than the Humax IMO.

Thanks for that Llew. Have one on order now. The guy in Maplin said that on their internal web site it states that it upscales to 720p
