My System: neotion 3000 matrix reloaded+reborn monobloc for 19.2+13e

Save money by using your pc, a dixv player and find a UK torrent site for all your tv, then put some handles on the satellite dish and use it to make paella.

My System: Sky Freesat in UK, Astra 1 ana/dig in UK, Astra 2 South Beam in Spain.

Have a look in the local English language papers over there. I have seen many advertising in them. Ask some of the local expats down the bar if they know of any. Good luck!

Hi with the demise of the microwave mesh system over the last 2 weeks, installers have all of a sudden doubled the prices of parts !.

Do you have a dish ?

I have a good satellite meter, I live in Aspe, happy to pop over and see if we can line it up.

cheers

Robin...

thats because the supply of dishes from manufactures has dried up, and in spain "its August" is the reply, and many offices and factories close or operate at a very reduced level, so it could be a few weeks before supplies increase and prices come down.

supershaw: look at the torrevieja forum (both the com and co.uk sites) as there are many in the same boat. but becareful as many cowboys are around - opportunists going for a quick buck - go for onw who has an office or at elast a landline and not just a mobile...and that has been advertising in the local press for a few weeks at least...you may get something back in the next few weeks, but not any UK subscription channels from what i have been reading...

I'm in Albatera but in the town. I'm waiting for Lee from Lee-digital (comes recommended) to visit, but he's got hundreds on his waiting list! Was hoping to find someone close to me who has 1.4m dish on their roof and see what Freesat channels they received, hopefully via a Humax Freesat box (£150 in Argos). I'm restricted by the size of dish I can put up on the Communidads roof as we live in a terraced block of houses with no individual gardens, so a big dish is a no-no.
I anticipate with a 1.9 dish you'll be OK but may need better digi-box to seek the weaker Astra channel signals from what I've read on the forums.

I'm in Costa Blanca and was wondering when you have a power cut, does your Humax box automatically re-set itself or do you have a lot of re-setting to do? We get a pwer cut at least twice every week, typical of Spain, sometimes for 5 secs, sometimes for around 1 hour.

Thanks

Dish sizes

Hello all,

Have been installing Satellite Systems in the south Costa Blanca area a lot over the last 4 weeks due to the Telemicro closure !

Unlike Alicante northwards where you must have either a 1.9m or 2.4 (area specific) to pick up a stable signal it varies greatly depending on where you are and 5 kilometers inland can make a massive difference south of Alicante ........

I will not commit to dish sizes on here as we have found the best way to advise a customer is to survey and do a signal test to be sure the right dish is being installed for the location......

The dish size required will be a 1.45m, 1.9m or 2.4m depending on the the signal......

I have even noticed big variations in strentgh of signal from one end of an urbanisation to another so chose your installer well......

It is, as previously stated wise to ask another person near by who has a dish installed what there reception is like and if the lose any channels during the day .......

BUSH receivers are pants with a very weak tuner in them so stay clear of them, I would only install a HUMAX HD receiver for FREESAT here in Spain as it has a very good tuner, even if you do not have a HD ready TV it is wise to get that one fitted so you are ready for the future..............

rememebr that Freesat Humax PVRs (hard disk recording) will be available towards the end of the eyar - so it could be advisable to wait if you want to record freesat programmes - and to plan ahead, as this PVR and the Sky+ PVR need TWO connections from the dish to the receiver to enable the "watch one channel and record another" function.

Woburny,

Thanks for the info - most useful. I've got the jist of what a UPS will do by searching for them on UK websites. I need to buy one here in Costa Blanca for around the 80€ you suggested, but I'm not sure what they're called in Spanish - can you advise, and do you recon MediaMart would sell them, or do I need a specialist shop?

Thanks

mediamarkt do them, as do carrefoure and most PC shops

the ones i have seen have UPS / Uninterruptible power supply written on the box

the more you spend the more voltage they can handle and the longer the battery can last.

so make sure you get a UPS with the appropriate voltage capacity for yout TV's, receivers, PC's etc

My System: 70 CM Dish need to upgrade to 2m dish
Question 1.3 Dish. Humax HD Receiver. BBC Posible in San Miguel de Salinas.

I have heard that it is posible to receive the BBC1 HD signal on a 1.3m dish in the San Miguel area of Costa Blanca South Spain.

Any one able to confirm this please.

You need to decide what digi-box you're going to use; if you say "freeview" then you can buy a PVR (Personal Video Recorder ...thats a digi-box with a built-in hard drive to record one channel when you watch another). Buy the digi-box in UK from the forum supporting advertisers.

If you want "Freesat" then the PVR for this system isn't out until end of this year. With Freesat you get HD. People have recommended the Humax brand of digi-box to receive Freesat in Costa Blanca where the satellite signal is weak, and this box is good at pulling in weak signals.
