Humax Freesat postcode?

Hello to all,

I wonder if anyone can help me, I have just bought a Humax HD
freesat box to Cyprus. If I try to go through the Freesat menu
it asks for a post code.

No matter what post code I put in even my
UK post code it just will not accept it. Does anyone know why?

As a freesat box does not transmit in anyway so why will it not
go any further. If I go and do it manually it tunes to all the FTA
and works.

Can anyone help?

See Analogue's post in this thread:-

ITVHD in Scotland and Ireland

There are a few postcodes there to try.
I don't have a freesat box, so could only suggest maybe, leave out the space, or put it in.

I don't think it is a box problem, going into manual mode
the box does scan and download the FTA channels, so the
box is working in a fashion. I have just written to Humax
lets see if they respond, I told them I am in Cyprus and what
the problem is, I have not seen any mention about not using
it outside the UK as Sky does.

Hi Well there is 4mtr dish on top of the house and
all ITV and BBC channels are available apart from those
on the V transponder on 2D. Not found ITV HD and not
sure if its obtainable here.

I have also tried the Humax with a 2.7mtr dish
and have noticed that the tuner in the Humax
is superior than that of sky boxes that I have come
across. Pace 430N and the panasonic TSB30

During the morning normally break up occurs
on ITV and BBC as yet no brake up has occurred
on the Humax....so far.

The post code problem is still bugging me

I've just set up a Humax Freesat HD box for a neighbour here in southern France.

I am very impressed - a very neat little box with stonking signal strength (their old Sky box was showing about 40% signal strength - suspicion that the dish had been moved in recent gales - but the Humax went straight to 95% with 100% signal quality) and great picture quality.

No problem putting in their UK postcode (in Shropshire).

Ideas (OK, you've probably tried them but...)

Have you tried using the virtual keyboard input instead of the remote keys?

Could there be confusion between 0 (zero) and (letter) O?

No as I do not hat the 0 in the post code I use. I have tried several with
no luck.

I had a similar problem when I first got my Humax and installed my dish. I put in my postcode and several others I know, but the Humax would not accept them.

The problem appeared to be dish alignment, because when I adjusted my dish to get a better signal, the postcode was accepted without any problem.

I can only assume that the Humax reads a list of acceptable postcodes off air and if it can't do that then it won't proceed.

Freesat use 11428 H 27500 on Eurobird 1 as their main data transponder. A 4 meter dish would have a narrow beamwidth and if focussed on Astra 2D, might have poor reception on that TP.

What's Eurobird reception like in Cyprus?

A valid point made
What do you installers do over there, peak on 2d? or E1?

I believe Cyprus has a better chance with S1 beam rather than the fixed

We normally peak on 2D on a new installation. I just tried 11.428H on my 3m but no signal. We do get some eurobird channels.
Thats an interesting point about the 11.428 Tsiklon, because today a customer brought over from UK a Goodmans Freesat receiver and when connected it said on screen signal is less than 50% so check dish alignment ,and I cannot get the message off or enter any menu. Connecting a normal digibox gives me the usual good signals and pictures from a 3m dish.
Can anybody help?

If the freesat box wants to look at Eurobird 11.428H first to pass the initial set up ( as that's where the EPG info is ) then that could be a problem.

........... Bit like the changing of the default Transponder on a Sl<y box...... Zorba ?????

What would be the minimum size dish needed to receive that transponder on E1?

I presume the 4M is a fixed dish so you can't nudge it east when powering on the freesat box. An alternative would be to have a small dish aligned on E1, and use a manual switch as the freesat box is powered on, so that it can download the EPG data, then switch back again to the 4m dish on 2D.

Well I received a reply from Humax as I went to the source
and you can read for your selfs what the reply was.

Thank You for tour email.

When you go through the initial setup with the Foxsat, it checks your post code against a database broadcast by freesat, to give you the correct UK regional variations. If the post code is shown as invalid the unit is not receiving the database, this may be due a problem with the LNB or dish alignment. You can search for the freesat home transponder manually on 11427 or 11428 horizontal. If you are not receiving anything on this transponder, you will not be able to verify your post code. You can check the footprint of the transponder at the following link: http://www.lyngsat-maps.com/maps/eb1_fixed.html

So there you have it some people on the post were quite correct.

In Cyprus the dish is peaked for BBC and ITV and due to narrow
bandwidth some of Eurobird channals are not obtainable hence the
Humax can not lock on. So I suppose I will have to leave things as
they are, I have also found out from Humax that ITV HD is also transmitted on the same trasnponder as the post code list.

We have a house in Cyprus and I was planning to bring a Freesat PVR over when they become available; from what you've found out from Humax it sounds like I need to do the postcode setting in the UK before I bring it over.

I presume it's like Sky - only a few BBC channels work at all, BBC 1London is what I can get with my sky box. So if I use a London postcode, hopefully it will prefer that BBC 1.

Further to the postcode problem; apart from that how well does it work? Does the EPG work in Cyprus and how good is reception? Do you get HD BBC ok?
