My System: Comag SL35 (FTA) Sky + @ Astra 28.2E Technomate TM 3100 D Pace DS810XE HD STB HP G6000 using Vista with 2GB Ram, AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor
Is this true????

Ive been told that here in ireland that all freeview channels will be scrambled in sept/oct this year is this true or just a load of ol' cod

cause it was a guy from chorus(irish tv company) who told my brother.

there currently doing upgrading to there lines

or have i got this all wrong and he was referring to the analogue reception not digital..

Not sure about timescale but yes is the answer...Irish Gov (RTE) have signed up to Mpeg4...RTE will quite analog tv transmission (maybe as late as 2012!) and offer 'PaySat' not 'FreeSat' yes PaySat! package (approx 10€ per Month)..currently in package deals with other providers (say they maybe broadcasting by 2009...if ye have FreeSat box ye can pick test channels now!...get yer wallet out if ye want the 'late late show' 2009!

Anything I have read about it so far would suggest that this is not the case.

Talking Digital Terrestrial, My understanding is that RTE1,2, TG4, TV3 along with a few others will remain FTA. Other channels will be available on subscription.

If you are talking about satellite broadcasts, then as far as I know things are not changing, RTE will remain encrypted and only available with a valid Irish Sly card.

Mpeg4 is just a compression standard, nothing to do with encryption.
