My System: Windows XP PC 60cm dish Labgear sat box
Question Missing Astra 2C and 2D

I have just purchased a satellite free to air kit from screwfix. It comes with a 60cm dish and Labgear sat box. My intention was to get FreeSat. (I am a novice with satellite).

I have tuned to Astra 2 but the drop down satellite menu only shows Astra 2A and 2B not 2C or 2D. 2A and 2B have tuned in OK and I have 500 channels however I do not have the BBC channels I was expecting.

Can I assume that because 2A and 2B are OK (68% quality) the dish is aligned OK and the fault is in the box software? I notice Eurosat 1 is also missing from the list but Eurosat2 and 9 are present. I am wondering if the box is not designed to give out the BBC channels.

Help!

Hi, don't worry about the satellite names too much, they are all in the same place in the sky for all intensive puroposes.

Just make sure that your transponder list contains the correct transponder details for all the channels that you want, and perform a satellite scan.

All the transponder details are here:-

Thanks Robbo,

On further investigation I have found that I am on Astra 1F and because I did an auto search for Astra 2 the channels are listed under Astra 2. This is a steep learning curve for me! Have tried panning the dish a further 9 deg E but because of a tree so far have been unsuccessful. However I am now pretty confident the sat box will pick up Freesat channels; if I can find a clear path.

Yes, the way to check what sat' you are on is to compare channel names and frequencies with those on Lyngsat.

Yep, trees are a problem. Surprisingly successful is to wander around holding a minidish, seeing if you can get a signal, steady hands are required!
