Following on from this thread FTA channels on Panasonic Freesat TV? can anyone confirm if there is a hidden menu that can be accessed to change the base frequency to enable a search on other satellites ? It does seem to be a shame that the Freesat EPG subsidy is governing the ability to use the inbuilt satellite tuner to collect channels from another bouquet and broadcaster, thereby making the HD section of the TV redundant.

| Cribbed unchanged from elsewhere ............... "On the TV source selection button for the inbuilt tuners there are four options 'freesat', 'DVB' (Digital Terrestrial) , 'Analogue' (Terrestrial) and 'Other Sat'. The 'Other Sat' option searches 'Astra 2 / Eurobird', 'Astra ', 'Hotbird' or 'All' satellites. You can remember about 1000 (if I recall correctly) channels, however as lots are encrypted for the Sky platform (and other platforms I guess) there's little point saving these unless you have a suitable decoder." Whether this is sufficient to nudge you in the right direction I cannot say as I freely confess to having no first hand knowledge of these beasties. | ||

| It's quite open (not a hidden menu) - the displayed options are: Freesat DVB Analogue Other Sat. You can download the manual from the Panasonic website. See page 14 (Plasma versions) for the TV selection menu and page 37 for tuning instructions for Other Sat. You can easily get HD channels on any satellite - with the right cam + card if encrypted. | ||

Meters: Satlook Digital NIT, Televes H45 Digital Spectrum analyser. | Must only be on the newer models or newest software update then, as that option was certainly not on the last one I installed. Will look for it on the next one.

| Can't see your other thread. What is the model number of your Panasonic TV. If you have a Plasma version have a look at page 14 of the user manual. At the top of page 14 you can see a picture of the TV Selection screen showing the Other Sat. option. I have just noticed that it says you only see this option displayed if you have tuned in some other satellite services. So look at the instructions on page 37 to tune in something. | ||

sorry the thread is attached to this string i read one of the others you where commenting on. anyway looked in the manual and they dont mention that the option of "other sat" may be removed from menus. i have looked and looked but cant find the other sat option so i think on the later tvs it might have been removed. i might phone panasonic and ask!

| Can't help you much more unless you say what the model number of your Panasonic TV is. You will see the other sat option once you tune in any one channel in all circumstances. There is nothing much of interest open on Hotbird at the moment. | ||

| Thanks for finding out the answer, however on the two TVs I have installed, even after setting up on Astra 28E, the option for other satellites still doesn't appear, besides to start any search a reference frequency for them would need to be added in the menu. Any ideas ? (and surely the Panasonic TV could now include DiSEqC 1.0 and above, - 1.2 for motorising ? - if it can alter bands on a universal LNB and search for other satellites) ? | ||

| Apparently the fourth option, "Other Sat." does not appear in the menu until at least one other satellite channel has been tuned in (see page 14 of the Plasma user manual to see this comment). I wasn't aware of this until someone in another forum raised the same query. To search for a channel you can either do a blind scan of the complete satellite or enter a specific transponder frequency (page 37 of the manual). As to DiSEqC; Panasonic have decided not to implement it, so I can't see any progress there. | ||

I have the 32'' LCD with freesat. The tv is connected to a 1mtr dish and was installed correctly, however this may sound strange, but using a distance of six feet from the screen to view bbc hd and itv hd I cannot see any difference from normal tv, certainly not the stunning pictures everyone talks about. Have I not set it up correctly, if anyone has any ideas I would be grateful because I really would like to experience hd television, thank you.

| Hi Aikon You will probably only see an improvement on channel 108, none of the others are HD, or broadcasting. You are not the first to claim this though, I have a customer with a Humax PVR that cannot see any advantage from the Freeview quality on the HD channel. | ||

My System: Various digiboxes, broken Nokia 9800S, numerous analogue boxes. My lovely little lappy, HP Omnibook 6100 | I don't have an HD source for my TV (yet!) but when I went round to my friend's house last week I really couldn't see a huge improvement between the HD channels and their SD equivalents. I could just about - I think - see an improvement between the two Luxe channels but nothing startling. And yet, when I've been in France and looked t soome of the demos in Carrefour or Auchan I can see wonderful detail when they are playing a (presumably) Bluray disc. Could it be because the disc was outputing 1080p and most TV HD is 720P?
