My System: TM 7655 & Pace Digibox with FREESAT from Sky card 85 cm mesh dish with twin lnb in Corfu. LG 32LF7700 FREESAT TV with SELFSAT-H10D Flat Antenna Twin LNB, Pace Sky Box, HUMAX PVR 9200T in Norfolk
DVD Recorder Connection Problem

I have just bought a LG 32LF7700 TV with built in Freesat, the only problem I have is how to connect my DVD recorder to it to record, the play function works fine through a scart.

Any ideas?

Jim

What is your DVD make and model?
A manual with all the input/output connectors would help.
I take that you want to record from the TV Freesat channels to the DVD recorder.
Usually you should select the AV channel on the DVD recorder from your remote in order to do the recording.
Let us say that you have SCART inputs AV1 and AV2 (or whatever the model has named them), and you connected a SCART cable between the TV and AV1
Then you need to select AV1 as the recording input and that should do it.
Just make sure you connect the cable to a an input/output connector on the DVD recorder and NOT output only.

Thanks for your reply, my DVD recorder is a Philips DVDR3480 and EXT1 is to TV I/O , EXT2 is AUX I/O. As I previously said the DVD is playing fine through the scart connection, but nothing is coming from the TV/Freesat receiver to the DVD recorder. I've tried all combinations of scarts without success.

What I need is a direct connection from the Freesat receiver element of the TV to the DVD.

The connections on the TV are AV1/RGB, AV2, RGB in PC, Ethernet, component in Y Ps Pr and Audio L & R, Optical Digital Audio Out, Audio in RGB/DVI, Satellite In, Terrestrial in, 3 X HDMI in, HP, USB in, PCMCIA Card Slot and AV in 3 (red, white and yellow).

The CD instructions that came with the TV won't work and I have requested a hard copy.

I think I'm stuffed on this one but if you have any suggestions i'd be most grateful.

Thanks for the extra information.
It will not be easy to get to the Freesat element, so better forget it.
It is rather difficult for me to give you more help without the user manual. The clues should be buried there.
However, I read somewhere that only one of the SCART connectors are FULL. So you would better connect the SCART cable to this connector.
Also try various options on the TV menus. There might be an option to enable or disable the TV OUT.
If you have another smaller TV with AV inputs, then connect it to each TV output and see if you get a Freesat picture and note which one.
In the meantime do your best to get a user manual and attach it here.

Hi Jimmy,

Did you solve your problem - we have exactly the same situation and I'd love to know if there was a solution.
Many thanks

Do you have the same make/model television?
Check your manual for how to record, and try a fully wired scart lead.

Hi Mallory

No, I don't think it's possibe.
What I've done to get round it is to use another receiver (Necobox) to record from, using the spare LNB feed from my Selfsat dish, it's a bit of a messy solution but it works fine although my wife's not happy as I promised her that this TV would mean we could get rid of a box.

If I'd known this I wouldn't have bought this model TV, incidentally I see John Lewis are now selling it for £500 with free 5 year warranty and a Blu Ray player or surround sound system.

Hi Goffer

Thanks for that, I downloaded it a while back but it has no answer to my problem.
Incidentally does your Panasonic Freesat TV put out a recordable feed? I assume not as I see you also have a Humax Freesat Box.

DVD Recorder Connection Problem

Hi Jimmy
My Panasonic does output on AV2. It also has a timer programming menu at the correct time the TV will switch on and tune to the correct program.
I have just had a look at the manual for your TV on page GB-16 I think its suggesting the output should be on AV2 on your TV. It states output mute on AV1. Might be worth giving it another go on AV2 using the Scart lead you have connected to the Necobox as you know that lead works okay.

Fingers crossed.

My System: LG32LF7700 Panasonic DMRE85 Fortec Star Freesat

I've just spent what seems like forever with the same issue (connecting a DVD recorder to the LG 32LF7700). I have a Panasonic DVD recorder previously used without issue with a Panasonic 32" CRT Tv and a freeview box. I basically changed the freeview box and TV for an LG 32LF77 thinking I could cut down the cable clutter (and remote controls!)

I eventually got it to work, but with 4 (yes 4) issues.

As far as I can tell, on the LG the AV1 is INPUT ONLY so it is no good plugging your recorder into this. Scart AV2 is the only port that provides output as well as input so you need to plug your recorder into this one.

On the recorder itself I had to plug the scart lead into AV2 (AV1 is output only). I also had to change some settings before it would work.
Because the LG's AV2 port is NOT RGB you have to tell the recorder that the input it's receiving is plain video input not RGB. I found this quite disappointing because RGB does give a better picture and even my cheap old freeview box could manage this.

You should now find that you can record freesat but I found the following other issues:

1) When you call up one of the DVD recorder menus, previously the menus were overlaid onto the incoming signal. I just get a black screen with the menu
so I initially thought it wouldn't record anything. When you hit record though, the freesat picture does reappear and IS recorded.

2) On playing back new recordings, the sound is noticeably out of sync with the picture. This is not a problem with previously recorded material or DVD discs so I know it is not an issue with the recorder.

3) If you start recording and then turn the TV off (into standby mode) the output to the recorder is also turned off! So you just get a black screen recorded. You could possibly just turn the display off (energy save menu) and mute the sound but is seems a bit ridiculous to me.

The solution as has been suggested I think is to use a separate freesat box, which rather defies the object of buying this TV in the first place. I am currently using a standard-def stb that came with my sat dish so I've had to give up HD for now but at least I get an RGB signal and perfect sound/video sync!

Sorry if this post has gone on a bit but what should be a simple setup has turned into a long and complicated one thanks to LG's lunacy. Qhy not make AV1 RGB input/output and give the option to passthru the signal even if the set is in standby? Or is that asking too much?
