Astra 2 missing

Hi,
I hope I am posting in the correct place.
I have a porty 2, 12volt sat receiver in my camper. I don't use it very often but the last time I tried it would not receive certain stations, for instance I could get BBC 1 London but not BBC1 East, there were several cases like this and the only common factor seemed to be the polarisation of the signal but I seem to remember that SOME V and SOME H WERE working. I thought it might be my LNB so I brought the receiver home and tried it on my home dish. Now I find that it seems to be on ASTRA 3A and when I try to find ASTRA 2 it does not appear on the list. I know it was there as I used to watch all the BBC programmes. There seem to be lots of other satelites listed but only ASTRA 3A.
Any ideas would be appreciated.
Many thanks,
John.

Hi,

You need to either add the satellite and add all the required transponders, or at least edit an existing satellite transponder list to make sure that you have the ones you need.

Check lyngsat.com for the transponder details.

Missing Astra 2

Hi Robbo,
Thanks for your reply. The problem is I can't see Astra 2 on the list of satelites -
I go to Installation / ok / Satelite search / ok and then I have a list of 46 satelites but no Astra 2, there is Astra 3 but there are not the normal programmes on Astra 3, (apart from ch 4).
Astra 2 WAS on the list a few months ago but it has just disappeared!
Any thoughts on how I could find it?
Thanks again,
John.

My System: Triax 1.1m and Orbital 80cm Motorised Dishes. Various fixed Dishes. Eclectic selection of Digital and Analogue Receivers. Complex switching and distribution that SWMBO cannot fathom. Nor me.

It doesn't matter - they are all just labels and tables.

Just create another "Satellite" (You can call it "Fred" if you like), ensuring it is tagged with the nominal position 28.2E and then either blind scan it or, as suggested earlier, add in an up to date Transponder list by manual comparison with the listing at Flysat, Lyngsat, KingofSat etc.

What's in a name?

BTW Astra 3 is at 23.5E and does not carry Channel Four ........ If you want, you could edit that "Name" from Astra 3 to eg "UK", ensure it is tagged with 28.2E as its position and then edit the Transponder List or do a Blind Scan. The fact that you are getting Channel Four using that table/list suggests it's not really Astra 3 anyway.

Entirely up to you. Totally customisable. Don't think too hard about it!

Missing Astra 2

Hi Tivu,
Thank you very much for your helpful advice - I just left the satelite called Astra 3 and manually inputted, (is that the word?), all the transponders listed on the site you gave me. Eureka all channels back. I cannot understand why some of them disappeared. I don't have the box switched on very often, perhaps that might be why.
Anyway thanks again.
Regards,
John.

Thanks for letting us know you've got it sorted out - I can't help with why you had the problem in the first place, but one or two possibilities spring to mind: Firstly, "finger trouble"!; Second, a glitch causing the Sinclair Spectrum like processing integrity of the receiver to become corrupted; Third ......... who knows!

I imagine most of us have experienced an inexplicable error with a Satellite Receiver at one time or another. "In extremis", they all have an option to revert to Factory Settings.

My System: 1,25m Fixed offset; Quad LNB's; 2 x Edision 2100; 13šE; 19.2šE; 28.2/28.5šE

Maybe it's under "Eurobird1", but if it's sorted, don't mess with it

Jayne: Do you know what the chain of command is? It's the chain I go get and beat you with till you understand who's in rutting command here.
