Biterate UK radio stations

Hi guys, just registered here, so this is my first one

I've got a question on the biterate of UK radio stations.

I'm a vivid fan of UK radio (Gold, the former Virgin stations, the Beeb's radios), but I strikes me that the output quality is nothing compared to some of the continental stations.
Take the Germans (whopping 320 kbps), or some of the French, Swiss, or Dutch stations (256 kbps), even some Italian stations have high qualify. But the British stations stay at 128 kbps (except, for BBC, which are at 192 kbps).
Is this something that has been discussed somewhere in this forum or even reps from the stations ? When you link your sat receiver to a quality amp, you definitely "enjoy" the difference in detail of the music.

thx for any input on this.

Which platform are you talking about here? I suspect it's DAB but surely you can't receive that in Belgium?

Anyway, DAB is pretty poor, just as you say. Internet radio seems to be no better on paper according to bitrate but I think that there are better compression technologies available so they can sometimes sound better.

If the station you want is broadcast on satellite this is usually a better bet. And finally, if you can receive a terrestrial FM transmission that's probably best of all.
