My System: Dont have anything as yet....need assistance
Freesat in south africa

I was at the wrong home at the right time today doing an installation and saw this rather larger than normal dish being setup. Curiosity got the better of me and I started asking questions. I got to hear about FreeSat and saw some channels that were being received, none really to my liking as they were mainly middle eastern based. So my question is, me being where I am on the remote end of africa..... am i able to receive Feesat and would there be any worth while content out of europe. We have a paid for subscription called DSTV.

If so (hoping) where do I go from here?

Thanking in advance.

My System: Pace Sky HD, DM7000s, CubeRevo 3000HDPVR, Transparent 80cm Dish, Moteck SG2100 DiseqC motor, lots of legacy gear. Meters: Satlook Digital NIT, Televes H45 Digital Spectrum analyser.

Very little chance of receiving Freesat (a free to air platform based on Astra 28.2 East) Not even convinced about the other European satellites, Hotbird would probably give you the best chance, but a massive dish would be required.

You dont - You have no chance whatsoever of getting any of the UK channels - the satellites are firing into north western Europe.

help me out here please Rolf.....yr patience is required a few more minutes please....

The installer earlier today mentioned Dream Box? I found the website and dont really have a clearer understanding. I take it is internet based? Would this be an option for me this side or do I just have to acccept my geographical location and settle with subscription package that we have in SA. would there be any other avenues to obtain free viewing.......

thanks again

The dreambox is a satellite receiver and whilst it can be connected to a broadband router you still need a suitable sized dish connected.

There are very few tv companies targetting South Africa, so to be honest you are stuck with whatever services are provided to you. You could investigate slingboxes - plenty of info across the forum about them, but decent hosting isnt cheap for a good tv package.
