My System: Sky digital (UK) and Fortec Star FS4300 FTA Box fixed at 28.2E
Asta 19.2E and Freesat

Hi,

A friend of my has an 80cm dish pointed at 19.2E from the last days of analogue $ky TV. He has decided to do some decorating and said he might take the dish down. I decided to plug in a Fortec Star FTA digital reciever and was shocked to find some of the following:

ARDE
Polish TV (TVP)
Loads of German channels
Spanish digital tests
$ky News International

(All with choice of audio)

To make it clear the dish has been there since about 1999/2000 so if I am getting the above channels then the LNB must be a universal one???

Would re-alignment be as simple as buying a sat finder, pointing the dish in roughly the same positions as all the other mini dishes then tweaking it for optimum signal?

I would not want him to have to pay to get a mini dish installed for Freesat.

My System: Zone1, DSI8215 SkyHD, Thomson DSI4214, TF5000CI, Dreambox DM800 HD PVR - Nab BH0.12, TM-5200D, Gibertini 104cm, SNH-031, 36v Actuator, Vbox-II, 42°E to 30°W, Sling Media, Televes H45 Digital Processing Analyser, Satlook Micro+G2 NIT, Rover SDM 1s

You could still have a 9750 LNb as the channels mentioned fall within the low band.

For freesat, you need to align up on 28East. Replace the LNb and move the dish 9° to the East lowering the elevation as you go.

The lnb is not necessarily a universal, the old single band lnbs still work, the lo is different though.

If you can receive from all transponders it is universal, if not you can pick a new one up very cheaply, and away you go.

My System: Triax 1.1m and Orbital 80cm Motorised Dishes. Various fixed Dishes. Eclectic selection of Digital and Analogue Receivers. Complex switching and distribution that SWMBO cannot fathom. Nor me.

The LNB should be held on by a collar secured by two screws.

As long as you get a 40mm Collar Mount Universal, not a Sky Peg and Pin thingy, it's a doddle.

Easiest thing in the world!

You should be able to re-align the Dish without a SatFinder if you feel confident - but a cheapo one will be fine if you have any doubts.

Hi

Finally got up to move the dish (due to bad weather) Eventually got a signal from 28.2E (with a lot of shouting from the living room!). The signal is ok but the dish does need fine tuned with a sat finder. There are some channels not coming up (BBC news/$ky news/cnn) and there are lines and squares on other channels. Apart from that not a bad attempt for a novice to save some money!

Thanks for all your advice!
