Welcome,

You can use the skyhd receiver for FTA programming but only a dedicated freesat receiver will give you the freesat EPG. You'll also need a fressatfromsky card for the few extra channels that are FTV encrypted.

Record functions either come with subs or it'll be £10 p/m.

My System: Various digiboxes, broken Nokia 9800S, numerous analogue boxes. My lovely little lappy, HP Omnibook 6100

You shouldn't need another card as you should still have the card from your $ly subscription. Providing it's a new white one you'll be good for four or more years.

When they turn the subs part of it off you'll be left with effectively the FFS (Freesat from $ly) card which will give you Five, Fiver Five USA, $ly 3 and correct regionalisation for the programme list. I believe that you will also still have access C4HD.

Unless you're extremely lucky you'll also lose the record function so make sure that you've watched everything you want as they will all disappear beyond your reach - even stuff like the Beeb which is FTA.

Yes, your need to apply for a fsfs card only if it's the blue type; should of explained in more detail
