Company comment about the removal of Scuzz from Freesat

Taken from a post by Freesat guru ian-d over on the DS forum:

CSC Media Group, which broadcasts Scuzz, has replaced the channel with Flava (an urban music and r&b channel). The way in which TV audiences are measured in the UK, coupled with the fledgling status of the Freesat platform makes it difficult for a niche channel such as Scuzz to maintain its position on the platform from an economic point of view. Due to this the company has decided to replace Scuzz with a channel with wider general appeal – increasing its ability to return the considerable investment which CSC Media is making in the Freesat platform. Freesat is one of the fastest growing television platforms in the UK and, as the universe of homes grows, CSC Media fully intends to add more channels from its stable of Music, Kids, Movies and Entertainment channels. The company fully intends to re-introduce Scuzz to the platform in the short to medium term and is optimistic about its return early in the New Year.

My System: Triax 1.1m and Orbital 80cm Motorised Dishes. Various fixed Dishes. Eclectic selection of Digital and Analogue Receivers. Complex switching and distribution that SWMBO cannot fathom. Nor me.

Good info, but "hmmmm" on their hopes for the future.

So they think yet another hippyhoppy channel has more chance of success than the only satellite metal channel. Good thinking their CSC.

Scuzz is a free to air channel right? Shouldn't Freesat just accept all free to air channels that want to be on their "platform", I'm not sure if channels pay for EPG slots on Freesat like on Sky, I assume they do if CSC is having to pick and choose it's channels. It just seems very odd that if Freesat wants to get more users then it should get as many channels as it can...

Makes me kind of glad that I watch TV via my PC, if I used a Freesat box, there would be so many channels I would be oblivious to, and no alphabetical ordering of channels.
