My System: Satellite dish. Four way connection. Three TV sets with a Freesat SD Grundig receiver for each.
Unhappy Jammed SD Freesat box/dubious phone call

Last July a local tradesman installed a smallish dish and a fourway cable to three quite old analogue sets in my house. and supplied Grundidg SD boxes for each set. I paid over the odds for this I think. i was illuminated a bit by the thread which Dave has closed down as I see that the boxes are not all the same. Yesterday, the GUFSAT1SD downstairs jammed at the channel it was on and now flickers madly as well. The two upstairs are GUFSAT100SD models and are still working. The controllers all look identical.
Is it a coincidence that an unknown caller phoned up yesterday to ask about my "Sky cover running out". Informed that I had Freesat he said that the warranty for the SD box downsatirs had run out that very day. Three months seemed not very long, but the tradesman had not supplied any warranty cards. As I was late for an appointment, I rather unwisely gave my card details to have the "cover " extended for three months so that i could deal with it when I come back in around three weeks time. He said the paperwork would be there . I don't go away for another two days. Shoud I be worried?
The said tradesman is extremely grumpy and I an not sure what I will get out of him. However he does live in the same village.

My System: TM6800HD, TM1000, TM600 Linux,TM5200, TM2200 motor, Triax TD110 dish + Fortec 85cm. Meter=Satlook Micro+G2 NIT

Eh???

All new equipment should be supplied with at least a 1 year guarantee, the same goes for any installation. Since it was only 3 months ago, you don't need any other cover.

.. and why deal with grumpy buggers, LOL, should have told him to FRO!

My System: Triax 1.1m and Orbital 80cm Motorised Dishes. Various fixed Dishes. Eclectic selection of Digital and Analogue Receivers. Complex switching and distribution that SWMBO cannot fathom. Nor me.

The "Sky cover running out" business is a long running scam based on cold-calling and has nothing whatsoever to do with real records of real installations.

Sky use one Company, Domestic & General. Any others are "trying it on".

Also, you don't have Sky, or anything related to it.

So the problem with your Box, the Warranty call etc are unfortunate coincidence.

Call your Card provider and report the scam.

As Robbo said, your faulty Freesat Box should be dealt with by the Seller (or, if he fails to meet his obligations, the Manufacturer) under your Statutory Consumer Rights.

Thanks to Tivu and Robbo. i feel a fool never having fallen for a phone scam before. Lots of complexities with the bank and debit card but nothing seems to have been taken so far.

I will tackle grumpy installer today.
