South American Satellites

Hello There, its my first post !

I was interested in being able to receive satellites such as intelsat 9 58 W, nss 806 40.5 W, intelsat 805 55.5 W etc In Ireland. According to Lyngsat these birds have C Band hemispherical beams which serve the Americas and Europe. I was wondering what size dish would I need in order to receive these birds.

Thanks.

My System: TM6800HD, TM1000, TM600 Linux,TM5200, TM2200 motor, Triax TD110 dish + Fortec 85cm. Meter=Satlook Micro+G2 NIT

If you look at the footprint info on lyngsat it gives an approximate dish size.

To start serious reception on American birds, you need to get a site that will allow a minimum of a -good- 3 metre dish (one that is motorised on two planes).
Access to these satellites will require a clear line of site to the west, no trees or buildings in the near vicinity.

Thanks guys, unfortunately my horizon is largely obscured by houses.
NSS 806 might be a realistic satellite that I can receive, its elevation in my area looks high enough to avoid interference from ground noise. The problem would probably be how powerful would this satellite be in Ireland ? According to Lyngsat a 1.6 meter dish would work for c band.
But maybe 1.8 ?

Ground noise can be minimised by inverting the dish if it is offset.

A 1.6m dish is really the smallest you can use for C band on any satellite with the exception of the older Gorizonts.
