Well I can see a small bump on my Spectrum, but only 53db and 5db C/N, won't lock and my receiver won't register that frequency, too high.

My System: 1.2M Channel Master, C120 Invacom 0.3 LNB & Feedhorn, with Humax HDCI2000. 68.5E - 61W

I used to get this small radio package a few months ago when it used an SR of 1100, after changing SR to 716 my Humax HDCI2000 won't let me enter anything under 1000, my AZBOX lets me enter 716 as an SR but doesn't lock it. There's a similar signal on Astra 3A 23.5E on 12661V using an SR of just 555, can't lock this either!

Very few tuners in digital STBs have a filter that allows a stable stream of information through to the demodulator circuit when the symbol rate is below 2000. In a similar way to bandwidth of the analogue tuners of a few years ago, it was a compromise between allowing wide or narrow through the tuner circuit, or a switchable system. Symbol rates on satellite range from the sub-thousand up to 45000, which exceeds many receivers using a single filter tuner.

Outside, the incoming signal is further affected by the stability of the LNB doing it's job of amplifying a million times, and then downconverting to IF frequency for entry into the cable. Most are trusting something that costs under $2 to make, then wonder why they have trouble locking into something at one or another extreme.

The firmware is often locked so that the user cannot enter a three digit number (or a zero as the first of a four digit number). If you are able to lock into 1000 - 1500 then your receiver/system is doing better than 99% of others out there.

I've managed to get as low as SR 1181 with the AZBOX, although my 1st ever digital receiver, a Nokia Mediamaster 9600 had no problems locking onto an SR of 1000, strange that modern tuners can't seem to do the same.

The early Nokia boxes had (I think) a tuner with switchable filters for SCPC and MCPC reception. Back then the overall cost of components was less important to the manufacturer than a decent product.
