My System: Skystar 2 , 90cm Dish Pace Digibox , Zone 2 Dish 42" LCD
Low signal on 7e

Hi Guys ,

Can someone run a little test for me ,Im in Ireland and Im tuned to W3A 7e , on transponder 10928mhz , 27500 , 3/4 , Vertical . Im using a 1.1M triax dish with a .2db LNB but im only getting 45% signal quality , SNR is jumping all over the place from 4db to 6db and the BER is gone mental too. Could someone swing around and see what they are getting on that transponder ?

Thanks in advance ,

John

My System: Triax 1.1m and Orbital 80cm Motorised Dishes. Various fixed Dishes. Eclectic selection of Digital and Analogue Receivers. Complex switching and distribution that SWMBO cannot fathom. Nor me.

A bit late, possibly (Some of us go to bed at night!), but on my 1.1m Dish I am recording 65% Strength & 74% Quality with no noticeable variation, using a Kaon KSF200.

The Kaon is not generous with its readings, so from experience of using it for some years, I can tell you that they represent a strong and stable signal. Not massive, not marginal, but perfectly adequate.

Perhaps BADR 3 got in the way during its travels - I see it is reported to be at or near 7E today.

My System: Sky UK. FTA analogue & digital satellite from 6 fixed dishes (5E/7E/9E/10E/13E/16E/ 19E/23E/28E) Pace MSS100, Echostar IP3000VA, Technomate TM-1000D, Dreambox 7020S

10928V is on the W3A B-beam - probably the worst one for the UK & Ireland.

My System: 80cm dish, Pace MSS500 (analog) 19e 1m dish, SG-100 motor, Dark Gold 0.1. Pace MSP 200, Humax F1 VACI

I like the idea BADR3 might have got in the way... NORAD ephemeris puts them exactly co-located at around 15:00 HRS GMT yesterday

Nice!

I'd like to think my hypothesis was correct, but I kind of assume that in such cases they drive the "in transit" bird behind the fixed ones.

Still, I like the evidence from your Screenshot!

The software is AGI STK - Analytical Graphics Satellite Tool Kit. A Google on that will get you straight there. And - its FREE. You can order the CD, or i think you can download it these days.
You can put as many satellites on there as you like and add NORAD data to each one, you can add ground stations, sure there are other satellite tracking software out there, but this gives really accurate pointing angles. And if you pay for the licenced version which is many $$, you can add spot beam footprints etc to much to list. But as a piece of free software its the mutts nuts.
Its what they showed all over the news to illustrate the Iridium / cosmos satellite collision.

I was afraid it was a weak transponder alright , The only other transponder that I can use is AB1 on 12.5W 11428mhz 30Msym/s , 5/6 Horizontal. I dont think ill even get a signal on that as it says i would need a much larger dish.

I dont think it was another satellite in front of it , unless it has the handbrake on and is parked there

Thanks Tivu for checking that aswell .
