Best not to clutter up this section with anything other than UK Sky questions.

Start a thread in the Digital Systems section.

(The above post was originally in the Sky Digital UK section. Rolf has now added a new section).

Channels on the Hottie widebeams should be ok. Anything on the superbeams may be a bit problematic in the middle east.

I hope it's ok to post this link here of which i think is quite useful for all in Cyprus living: http://www.rdi-sat.com/f2/viewtopic.php?t=39469

Reception problems start in Greece: A friend in the south of Corfu island reports that he gets them all with 1.20m on 19.2E and 13E in offset, in Kastoria a 1.20m is needed to get them with the original Pace NDS receiver which has a weaker tuner, others get them with 90cm permanently. In Ioannina a 1.20m with a common receiver is needed. In Larisa a 1.50m Gibertini is on the limit sometimes. In Thessaloniki a 1.50m should also fix all problems. Further east in Kavala a 1.40m loses some of the weaker ones, so a 1.80m offset is recommended for all frequencies. Alexandroupoli close to the turkish border seems to have similar level of signal. In Athens further south most of the frequencies come on 1.20m quite well but others are very weak. Most of the time a 1.80m offset should make it but last summer on 2 3m solid ones there was signal loss because of the heat. Very surprising conditions we have in Chania further south. It looks like the signal is a little stronger than in Athens. There 1.80m offset could bring permanently reception on the full package.
Conclusion: Around Greece (also in eastern parts) a 1.20m Offset brings most of the frequencies on the screen but not all.

Hope that they will move all to Hotbird 7A and 8 which won't carry a Superbeam anymore. The package is worth it to pay for.

Greetings from Stuttgart/Germany - Christos

Unhappy Sky Italia package

I have just installed the sky package and live in Izmir(west of Turkey)unfortunately I can not get most of the channels because of weak signal and I am very frustrated.I can get some of the movie channels at night but not during the day and I have a 2 meter satellite dish.

A more sensitive LNB can sometimes give you more signal, but at the end of the day the only answer is to get a bigger dish.

I think Sky Italoa has superb programming. The problem is the reception area from overseas. Hope they will switch to the new Hotbird as one of the masters of the forum mentioned.

This is what we all hope powel000. Although Hotbird 7A+8 carry many transponders that could take over all the Superbeam frequencies it has been announced only to take over the ones of Hotbird 1, 2 and 3 not from HB4 which at least for the eastern Mediterranean carries the weakest ones.

In my opinion the next important thing would be that van den Berg (a dutch politician) achieves what he is fighting for: a free PayTV market in the EU
This would mean in this case that anybody living outside Italy in any EU member state could subscribe to the package directly without any address in Italy. No relatives, friends or expensive dealers would be needed anymore if this dream would become true. Well the movie companies and sports right owners will block him. There has been a wild discussion on this some time before in Brussels. Let's see who wins in the end. Hope not as usual the $$$.

deep, thank you for the valuable info. From what I understand from wha you wrote, the HB4 frequencies will not make the switch to the new hotbird. When will the new hotbirdes will be launced?
