I am helping a friend setting up a system down in southern France in Nice. Does anyone receive these satellites down there and could you please tell me what size of your dish is? I could skip Sirius as Viasat is crap television anyway, but it's more important to know what size i need for Thor down there.

Will move this to the new Fringe Reception section, might have more luck there.

Although satellite 'beams' are also steerable and this may be what you saw on Lyngsat. Hope this helps L.

My System: Various digiboxes, broken Nokia 9800S, numerous analogue boxes. My lovely little lappy, HP Omnibook 6100 | A few years ago when I was watching 1W on analogue a 1.8m dish pulled in Intelsat, Thor II and III. A 90cm dish would just about work for Intelsat and Thor II, albeit with a few sparklies. I would think that 1.8m should do for the digital channels even though there are weaker than the analogue. This is near to Orange 84 BTW. PaulR

| No French people here? I am going down to South of France in Cannes in July and have ordered a Channel Master 1.2m dish from my distributor, i hope really this is enough, otherwise i will end up with a spare dish. I have searched the net and there doesn't seem to be much interest in satellite-TV in France, i tried the forum someone suggested but i didn't get any answer that was good. As the customer can't have a 1.8m dish on his terrace this really needs to work. | ||

I fitted a 60cm dish near Bordeaux and it picked up the main position (Astra, Hotbird) no problem. Bought the dish LNB in the local electrical store - cheaper than the UK.

| Reading the footprints i can see that it's 50-50 chance with a 120cm as the footprint line where the installation should be is just on the line where it says 115cm, after that and not too far away the next line says 190cm. How is it in London, U.K? do you receive Thor with 120cm or even a smaller dish? I am asking because i want to know how true the footprints really are as the London area clearly states that a 120cm dish is necessary, about 43dBW. | ||

For 1W, theres about 5 different footprints available. Which channels are you most interested in?

My System: Dreambox7000 Gemini 1.05 Camd3 | Thor & Sirius in South of France (Nice - Vance St Paul) I have installed for a friend in Nice a 1,8 m dish + Humax 8100 CI + Conax modul + Canal Digital Sweden on Thor, reception ok, I was also trying to receive Sirius, the only Swedish program received was SVT Europe, no reception about Viasat. About Thor we started with 1,1 m from Triax and loose many times the signal, now with 1,8 m 100% ok. We receive also Sky Digital with 1 meter dish.

| Thanks, i might need to talk to my client about a larger dish. I am going to install above Cannes. Did you get any picture at all on Thor(Canal Digital) or was it pixelized? Do you remember the quality reading in % you got on the receiver and Triax dish? I have ordered the Andrew Type 120 dish with original feedhorn which specifies 42.0dBi midband gain, the Triax TDA110 got 40.2dBi midband gain, actually the Triax TD110 is only 105cm in reality. That difference can help if i am lucky.

- all the channels from Thor/Intelsat 1w, included the nordic beam (probably not the spot2, but there are no channels on it) - all the channels form Sirius 5e, except the nordic beam (I can get only the powerful 11747V TP, Viasat: unuseful for me...)

Things have changed somewhat at 5E and 1W since this was started - almost all the old satellites have been retired and replaced with new ones so the transmission characteristics will have changed somewhat.

Bigger dish required. TV2 Norway may be possible via Thor 5 or Sirius 4. Rikstoto is only on Thor 3. You do know you will also need a subscription for those two channels?

My System: Sky UK, Canal Digital Finland, TM6900 - 28°E/19°E/13°E/1°W | Yeah, things have changed since this thread was started. We used to get good reception of everything from 1w on an 80cm dish in Switzerland but then Thor 5 came along and made reception from the T1 beam impossible with that setup.
