My System: FortecPassionHD, QualitvQS1080IR, VantageX201SCI, Motorised 1m dish, 8w to 28e
QualiTV boxes

What would you say is the going rate for a Qualitv box? The QS 1080 IR.
The cards for these boxes are now defunct since the provider has moved to MPEG4 for HD. But its still good for 4:2:2 and FTA. I'm not selling, just interested to get some views.

My System: humax 5400 fortecstar sl65 quali tv ir 4 digiboxes dragon cam funcard7 sm3d12 motor wavefrontier t90 90cm dish 1m dish

to danit.
i see you have the quali irci listed on your profile. i was wondering if you had tried an mpeg4 cam (like this one on Ebay: item # 360149617205) to receive hd transmissions or maybe it wont work anyway with dvb s2.

also would you know where to pick up the irci model, as i have the ir model and all the ones i've seen on Ebay are the ir model.

any help would be appreciated, thanks.

no, never tried the mpeg4 cam, no use at all (even if it worked properly...) in my opinion, as the big issue actually is dvb-s2 standard and QUALI tuner is not dbv-s2, so with a mpeg4 cam you just could get dvb-s mpeg4 HD channels (a disappearing minority, see http://en.kingofsat.net/hdtv.php), and I also have a proper dvb-s2 receiver

as for the irci model, you just gotta wait and see on Ebay, or wait for my receiver to go on sale as I'm probably gonna get the AZBOX HD (4:2:2 compatible) in a few time

Just by chance I had one in last week. As you suggest it is a very odd spec, Irdeto embedded and MPEG2 / MPEG2HD only, and a DVI output on the back panel.

Overall the menus are rather nice and it has an OK DiSeQC 1.2 system, but it does have a limited channel capacity and the 1080 card is only likely to last until the end of the year - if you have access to 23.5 East.

The favourite listing is also strange, as it is on a per satellite system, rather than a favourite for the complete listings.

I wouldn't pay much more than £30 for it on its own, certainly no more than a cheap FTA receiver, unless you really do want to look at 4.2.2 FTA feeds, as it does little more.

There is a very fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness"

My System: 1.2m motorised qualitv decoder manhatten blind search decoder echostar 3600ip

Had 1 for around 4 years and it is good for 4;2;2 but very prone to crashing and losing channels for some reason. The AZbox is the future.

this pretty new box has some absolutelt new spec (for the end user market, I mean...)

it's a HD dvb-s2 mpeg4/h.264 PVR ready (USB + Sata) linux based receiver

it has a built in Sigma SMP 8634 chipset, that means:
  • it's 1080p compatible, an absolute "premiere", no use for satellite channels yet (as none is broadcasting in 1080p, just 720p or 1080i) but it can be useful as multimedia player (DivX, XviD, MKV, AVI SSF etc.)
  • it's 4:2:2 compatible: unfortunately many tests have showed it's perfect with SD 4:2:2 feeds and with HD 720p 4:2:2 feeds but not with HD 1080i 4:2:2 feeds (similar to the multimedia player Popcorn Hour, using a Sigma SMP 8635 chipset not compatible with 4:2:2 HD 1080i), developers say it's a software limit that could be fixed in the next future, hopefully...
other issue is the lack of blind scan: btw the sat tuner is the same used by Vantage 8000 (and others similar) so it should be possible to implement bind scan feature by software update

STB is not stable yet and has many CAMs compatibility problems, but this often happens with new and innovative STB
