My System: Vision HD200 |
Hi all, we its my first post here so ...off we go. I don't have SKY or want it either. I had a set of satellite kit primarily for caravanning abroad. This consisted of a 60cm dish/tripod with compass & sat finder connecting to a non HD skybox with a SKY freeview card. However ...everything except my dish went up in flames when some scumbags torched my caravan in its stroage compound :-( I am presently sorting out a new tripod etc but instead of a 2nd hand SKY box & freeview card, I have choosen to buy a b-grade Vision HD200 receiver. This time I also wanted to be able to install in the house to hook up to my HD telly. I essentially want to get the max out of this receiver and would consider buying a motorised dish for the house. I picked the Vision HD200 simply because I saw 'patched' versions of it on Ebay Here is where I hit rocky ground though. I've seen forum posts about things called 'cams' etc but I am totally lost on the entire issue of patching/modding receivers. It might be better people PM'ing instead of replying to the post, but I would appreciate some advice on what my HD200 is capable of, at what cost and what places to source things from. cheers

My System: Vision HD200 | what...so it can't do zip ? Even if I freely point the dish at alternative sats ? So anybody selling 'patched' receivers are basically selling duffers ?

Meter=Satlook Micro+G2 NIT | Think there might be a something left on 1W, I don't keep up with these things, it won't be for much longer though. Yes, patchable receivers are more or less yesterday's news. Linux is the way people seem to be going.

My System: Vision HD200 | Don't get me wrong, I'm happy to make do with the HD200 for camping as I didn't pay big money for it. But are you saying the latest kit which can get any channel is something like a 'DreamBox DM800' ? That appeared on Ebay

My System: Vision HD200 | What is the actual satellite name that UK freeview channels are on ? I've set up a dish on a tripod in my garden. I've started up my HD200 and believe I've lined up with Astra 2A/2D. I've asked it to find free channels and its just a pile of non-English channels plus Sky News International. Help!!

My System: Vision HD200 | 1. How do I physically patch the gxmax file onto the unit ? Do I have to get hold of an old serial RS232 cable ? Why not the USB port ? 2. Tonight I got it set up an beleive I aligned to Astra 2A/2D, but there was no sign of UK Freesat stuff eg BBC ITV etc. Am I aligned to the wrong satallite????

My System: Triax 1.1m and Orbital 80cm Motorised Dishes. Various fixed Dishes. Eclectic selection of Digital and Analogue Receivers. Complex switching and distribution that SWMBO cannot fathom. Nor me. | Just shove it another 9 degrees eastwards and depress the elevation by a degree or two.

My System: Vision HD200 | Pheww...thats a relief. Ok I'll have another go tonight. It would be easier IF the HD200 gave some feedback as to which satellite it was getting its signal from.... All I want to do now is get the Brit FTA channels saved and delete anything non-english or pay-to-view, i.e. just have 30-40 channels preset.

Yes you are on 19.2 East Astra 1, you need to move your dish 9 degrees East

Access the settings menu and find transponder 10.714 Horz, 22000Mb/s, 5/6 (Channel 4) Now drop the elevation of the dish a tad and slowly swing the dish round to the East until you receive a signal quality on the above transponder. Scan/auto tune the satellite and your be on Astra2.

My System: Vision HD200 | Cheers all I finally got there :-) I don'y recall having such agro with the old skybox I had. A couple more comments , observations:- 1. Channel 4 stuff was absent. Do I take it I still need some kind of subscription card for C4 / E4 ? 2. I did find BBC HD channel so its deffo worth getting a HD cable now. Does a HD cable take over completely or do I still need scart/AVI cable as well ?

1. Try re scanning the transponder 10.714h 2. You can view SD and Hd using the one HDMI cable.
