My System: TM-1000D, 60 cm dish
Installation required S.E London

Hi
Mrs has given me permission (Not under the thumb honest ) to put up a satellite dish to get DigiTV packages (Thor 3/5 & Intelsat 10-02 at 0.8°W) as we have friends that can provide the card and Cam (We are located in lower sydenham).

I have no equipment other then a old Technomate 1000 !! so will need everything (Dish, Set top box with CI), LNB cable, a ladder will be needed (3rd floor flat), depending on the cost I may want to go motorised !

Any takers ?

My System: Sky UK. FTA analogue & digital satellite from 6 fixed dishes (5E/7E/9E/10E/13E/16E/ 19E/23E/28E) Pace MSS100, Echostar IP3000VA, Technomate TM-1000D, Dreambox 7020S

Be aware the Digi TV signals will be going secure encrypted soon, so if you want them back you will have to pay in the near future...

My System: 1.2m Tristar Dish (mounted on the ground) 2 LNBs: 28E & 26E (Badr4) Technomate 5200 sorted!! (until it rains that is ! ;-) )

hi Roboraver - how did you get on with your installation? Any recommendations?

I too have just had my orders ....er I mean I HAVE decided to install a dish. Dont have a dish/receiver/anything!!

I need to catch the gulf channels ...including saudi and sudan. I'm guess arabsat 3 would be ok for that?? (got no clue). Also I hear the motorized ones arent all that they're cracked up to be!

cheers

My System: Triax 1.1m and Orbital 80cm Motorised Dishes. Various fixed Dishes. Eclectic selection of Digital and Analogue Receivers. Complex switching and distribution that SWMBO cannot fathom. Nor me.

There is nothing intrinsically wrong with Motorised systems

Of course, any system, whether Motorised or not, can be poorly installed and so not perform well.

With the Badr satellites in the UK, you are just beyond the realms of a DiSEqC motor giving you reliable, long term operation, and so a polarmount system would be the logical next step.

Of course the cost now goes up somewhat, with the extra hardware, converters and the time spent installing it. Additionally the method of fixing to the wall becomes far more critical to prevent UK weather from spoiling your viewing.

There is a very fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness"

Nothing really wrong with a properly Diseqc motorised setup for the price, but only really any good for dishes up to approx 1m, and even then that may be pushing it in some cases. I can pretty much get the 'receivable on a 1m dish' transponders 24/7, except when there's rain. The same applies to the Nilesat verticals in my area.
