Thumbs up Satellite Installation - Cyprus, Paphos

Hello,

We're looking for a trustworthy company to install a satellite dish for us in Cyprus. There are a lot of companies here that do it but I'm looking for recommendations of good ones only as some of the people we've met seem like cowboys. One told us things would be included for free in the first telephone converstation and then wanted to charge us £400 in the next.

Any positive recommendations please?

Many thanks,
Melissa

Wow I posted this message one week ago. 42 people have read it so far & no-one has anything positive to say about the companies here? Sounds like a market is ripe for a new leader!

My System: Sky+, DB 7000s, Gemini 4.3 in flash, Var on USB stick. Transparent 80cm Dish, Moteck SG2100 DiseqC motor, lots of legacy gear. Meters: Satlook Digital NIT, Unaohm EP313, Swires Annie 204 Spectrum, Rover ST-4 Spectrum.

It may well be that none of the Cyprus members have read the post.

Also I guess that there will be conflicting opinions as to who is good and not so good and they may not want to get involved in an argument about it.

True, none of us probably read the post.Didn't notice this section before. The 42 that read it probably not in Cyprus.
I wouldn't mind getting into an argument about who's good and not so good, but I thought it's not allowed.
Best to go by recommendations,Melissa.
There are a few cowboys in Cyprus and they seem to like the West(Paphos that is).And as I hear ,you probably contacted most of them already .

yes I've been very dissapointed so far thats why i asked for 'positive' recommendations. judging by lack of response i guess i will have to give the cowboys the business which explains why they're still trading!

I just came across this thread. Me personally can not recommend any company but i heard good things about _http://www.titosat.com which seem to be the most experienced on the island. I don't know either how their prices are.

I emailed Tito Sat & they have not responded to my message. Anyway, they are based in Nicosia & we live in Paphos. Since my first post I've found ShipShape & AstroSat to be the most professional & both have very competitive prices so I am currently deciding between the two. Perhaps the excellent pricing explains why the later has had some negative posts! I saw some positive posts about SnapSat but I understand they have closed down which was confirmed when my email to them was returned.

Nobody likes to respond officially by email or in writing etc because we know you will take the estimate to someone else and they will "do it cheaper" and you will either say "so and so said they will do it cheaper", or we won't hear from you again.
Some of us see ourselves as professionals and stand by our prices and some drop their prices (and cut corners) and go bust. There a few of us in Limassol that have been doing satellites for years and are still in business, without advertising in every paper and magazine.
Like I said earlier ,go by recommendation from someone who is happy with the job and back up service(not the cheap price,as the three don't mix).

I see. Well to be honest i also didn't get an answer on an email i sent them some years ago. Might have been that a spam filter blocked it or they wouldn't have to earn money from me, i don't know. If things are similar to Greece i would prefer to get in contact either per phone or preferrably face to face.

Most companies are offering the same products & equipment and are giving me identical sales spiels. Only the service levels differ. At this early stage I have not been impressed by their customer service skills and would definitely not give them my hard earned money. Some have actually been very rude!

I agree about price. The cheapest company is based in Nicosia but I would prefer someone from Paphos as if there's a problem, they can be here faster. I didn't even choose 2nd cheapest company as I was not confident that he would follow through as he contradicted himself on the telephone many times which is why I subsequently asked for everything in writing.

I'm reminded by your post of the English 'guy' from Limassol who arranged to call me at the end of last week to come to Paphos - I'm still waiting for him to turn up (I got his number off this site)! 'I wouldn't get out of bed for xxxx' is not exactly a positive attitude to have. Companies need to service budget restricted clients as well as those willing to pay more. That's how you get a good reputation which spreads through word of mouth. The opposite is true too. The best course of action is to match your product to your clients specific requirements whether it's state of the art equipment or budget constraints that are the deciding factor for them.

Companies that pay for advertising show that they're successful and can afford marketing budgets. I would rather go with a bigger company with experience than a one man show that could dissapear after the installation.

I'm glad I did my research & checked around for prices to make sure that I was not taken advantage of. There are some greedy people around. I did the same when I was looking for a burgler alarm to be installed and I'm very happy with the outcome. I definitely recommend shopping around for any product or service.

Thanks for all your comments. I've decided to go with the most professional representative I met who gave me the most confidence that he would do a good job & be around to service us in two years+ time. Quality of service and reasonable price at the quotation stage was, as always, the deciding factor for me. He was originally the most expensive but when I asked if he could give us a better price he agreed so we ended up getting everything we wanted. To be fair we will send a lot of new business his way! ;D

Whilst I was in Belgium this weekend, I would take some offence at the idea of a one man business not offering a decent service compared to the 'experience of a bigger company'.

I have installed many systems in Cyprus, and almost each time I have been offered flights and a bed (and as much wine as I can drink) to fit the system. Nobody has complained to date.

Maybe your idea of trying the local installer is in need of an upgrade ?

I Had To Smile At The Last Comment Because It's A Little Sad To Think One Man Shows Are Going To Dissapear!!! I Have Joined This Web Site Because I Moved Into A House With A Massive Dish Which Was Connected To Nothing...
I Live In Sussex England And Have Asked For A Quote From A Local Supplier And Been Advised Single Channel Set Up To The Sat Of My Choice 225 Plus Vat. I Think This Seems Reasonable. Does Anyone Agre? Also Does Anyone Know The Best Channel For Slovakian Tv Channelss Astra? Thanks

Depends what you mean by massive dish and what the installer needs to do to point it at the required satellite. There are a few Slovak channels on Astra 3A at 23.5 degrees East and requires a 1m dish from your location, possibly slightly smaller.

and which part of Sussex. It is a large county.

(besides, I would have an issue with any company adding VAT to a consumer quotation)
