I thought that Liverpool were embarrassing in the first half, but boy have they made up for it in the second half.

Fingers crossed now.

My System: Sky+ Pace v3, and before that analouge 80cm dish with Prima by Pace box pointed at 19.2e (not very imaginative then!)

caps off to Liverpool!!!! Made us all proud to be English.

Regarding this frankly idiotic situation about defending the Champions League, why doesnt UEFA ask for a compromise, say Arsenal are demoted to play qualifiers and Liverpool take the automatic spot? I know Arsenal wont be happy, but I dont think they'll argue that coming 2nd in the Premeirship is a bigger achievement.

We could even demote Man U and Everton to play from the 2nd round of qualifiers, and I say this as a Man U fan.

Basically, 5 English teams can play in the Champions League, but UEFA dont want to (cant be bothered to) sit down and adjust the tournament.

And before anyone says that UEFA cant break rules, they HAVE done countless times, and on more important things... ie technically Spain probably should have been disqualified from WC qualifying for bringing the game into serious disripute, no matter if it is a FIFA competition, UEFA could have asked to withdraw them. Also, all the business with Anders Frisk, because as Frisk says himself, something did happen, so Jose should never have been penalised etc, and then theres how they deal with drugs (its meant to be a 2years suspension - World Anti-Doping), and so on and so and so on!!!!!

Muhuhuhahahahahaaaaarrrgggh

Well done LP. Must be one of the most exiting CHL games ever.
Dudeck, what can I say. Managed to pull it off. Still a dodgy keeper though, one moment brilliant, next moment disaster. Liked his Grobbelar imression, funny moment indeed.

Of course now the scousers are going to be unbearable with their 5 times and all the rest of the banter.

But, better Liverpool than Arsenal or Abrachski...
I do like Benitez, he shows that you can win stuff without antagonising everyone within the first 2 weeks of arrival.

"Legendary Liverpool goalkeeper Bruce Grobbelaar insists Champions League hero Jerzy Dudek "did a much better job" than he did when the Reds won the competition in 1984.

He described Dudek's unconventional posturing in the penalty shoot-out as "like a starfish with jelly legs".

Grobbelaar inspired Liverpool to European Cup glory against Roma 21 years ago after a penalty shoot-out, and in Istanbul Dudek did the same against AC Milan.

The Pole's heroics capped an historic night which saw Liverpool come from 3-0 down at half-time to draw 3-3, before the game was decided by spot-kicks.

Dudek copied Grobbelaar's bizarre tactic from the Reds' last European Cup win by waving his arms around and wobbling his legs as the Milan penalty takers approached.

Serginho missed Milan's first penalty before Dudek saved from Andrea Pirlo and Ukrainian star Andriy Shevchenko.

"He did a much better job than I did," said Grobbelaar. "He looked like a starfish with jelly legs to me but it worked.

"This must be a hell of a high for him, and the double save against Shevchenko in extra-time was one of the best I've ever seen."

Of the victory, Grobbelaar said: "This is much better than anything we did. No-one has ever come back like that in the European final."

Dudek revealed after the match that defender Jamie Carragher suggested before the spot-kicks he copy Grobbelaar's stance.

Grobbelaar added: "Apparently he was told to do what Bruce Grobbelaar did in 1984 and the boy did it.

"The rules have changed, the keeper can go across the line, and he put the first one (Serginho) off and saved two critical penalties."

The Zimbabwean also admitted it was then Liverpool manager Joe Fagan who gave him the idea in Italy 21 years ago.

"Joe Fagan said to me 'we can't stop them hitting the target from 12 yards, if they don't they shouldn't be playing'," said Grobbelaar.

"As I was walking away, he said 'you've done your job, we're not going to blame you, just try to put them off', and that stuck in my head.

"The two people who I did put off were Italian internationals Bruno Conti and Francesco Graziani. If they didn't take the pressure then it's not my fault.

"The Italians, the guys that missed the penalties, you could see in their faces they were not confident of hitting the target and they didn't. Dudek saved two and put the first person off. It was magnificent."

Dudek has been at Anfield since 2001 and has experienced a mixed four years, occasionally making crucial errors.

He is expected by some to leave the club this summer and Grobbelaar said: "I've heard rumours he might be going.

"I wish him all the very best if he goes, we must think about the fact he helped Liverpool win the Champions League. And hopefully Uefa will allow Liverpool to defend it next year.

"You must say it must be the most magnificent comeback in the history of the Champions League. Three down at half-time and you bring on a person that I regard should have started, (Dietmar) Hamann, which stabilised the midfield and gave (Steven) Gerrard the freedom to get forward.

"And look what happened, he (Gerrard) gets the first one and he played absolutely magnificently second half."

Grobbelaar insisted, though, that the victory differed from the European Cup triumph he played in in 1984.

"You cannot really compare that. The one we played we went to Rome, played in Rome and to go in the lion's den against the home team, it was awesome," he said.

"But this, away from home, a neutral ground, 3-0 down at half-time and all of a sudden in the 58th minute it is 3-3, it was absolutely magnificent football in the second half."

yes well done the lads - any of you players who dont wanna stay - i think i speak on behalf of most fans - NONE of you players not even the most high profile are bigger than the team - they all dug in as a team and pulled us through - no special treatment for you either Stevie G - you're a great player but if you really wanna leave then do so and let the club get on with building for the future, same applies to all players - you should all be bustin a gut to stay now - i know it wont be possible in all cases - and finally well done unsung hero Djimi Traore - you took a lotta stick first half but you saved us a few times as well second half

Talking

Just got back from the 'Pool and all I can say is - yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee eeeeeeeees
Still hasn't totally sunk in mind. Can't imagine what I'll be like when it does. The second half was like a dream. Went from seeing grown men in tears to dancing on the pool table within an hour.

Never mind a digital recording. For once I might actually buy a full price DVD. I've walked the whole of Merseyside the past couple of days and I'm completely shattered but well worth it. Slightly too young to remember '84 and I honestly thought I'd never see it happen again.

Best team in Europe but only the fifth best in England. Hopefully UEFA will understand what the 'Champions' League means and'll see the light.

Bet it was a trip of a lifetime for you, and yes hopefully uefa will have to allow Liverpool defend their title. What agood suggestion above in this thread about Arsenal Giving Liverpool the auto spot and they go into the playoffs. I think Arsenal would be good enough to overcome any of the pre qualifers.

Well, one would think Liverpool as well. I don't think it is down to playing a qualifier, as it stands they can't get a place unless Everton are demoted to the UEFA cup, which I don't think the FA will do...

True enough, Did I hear that milan was allowed to go through some years ago when the finished outside the qualifing positions.??

Yes, but I believe that it was at the expense of another Italian team and i can imagine the carnage on Merseyside if that decision were made.
