Results from Qualifying of Australian GP / SL Entry List

Official Qualifying Results

New season, new driver line-ups, but Ferrari red still leads the pack in qualifying, as Kimi Raikkonen took pole in an entertaining opening. Its been clear throughout the winter that Ferrari have the edge, and it showed with Kimi taking top spot, and he may well have been joined by team mate Felipe Massa, but the Brazilian suffered a gearbox problems failure and is 16th on the grid.

The most engaging duel was that between the McLaren pair, world champion Fernando Alonso and new boy on the block Lewis Hamilton. Hamilton took Q1, two hundredths of second faster, but Alonso would not accept the same outcome in Q2, beating the young Englishmen by the same margin, and in the top 10 shootout both fought it out, Hamilton setting the target in the final minute, but the Spaniard beat him for 2nd.

Unfortunately, and perhaps rather cruelly for Hamilton, the BMW Saubers looked quick and proved their early season hype with Heidfeld taking 3rd. Kubica was 5th, whilst Renault looked out of sorts, with Giancarlo Fisichella in 6th and Kovalainen still finding his feet, his 13th on the grid.

The biggest surprise was the stunning performance of the Super Aguri’s, using Honda 2006 engines, were able not only able to out-qualify the factory Honda’s of Button (14th) and Barrichello (17th), but Sato got into the final session, although any further progress was halted there – the Jap is 10th in the grid, Briton Davidson is 11th. Also stark was the difference between the Red Bulls, with Coulthard (17th) knocked out in Q1, but Webber is in the upper echelons at 7th.

A minor curiosity to note is that the Brits qualified in opposite order of their respective experience – youth wins on this occasion it seems.

Race Result from Australian GP

Official Race Result | Full Story

Dominant from the start, Kimi Raikkonen has set a marker for the others to follow by taking victory in Melbourne. Not once was the Finn even threatened, his mastery in the race evidenced by recording the fastest lap.

However, the man of the day is Lewis Hamilton, the first British debutant to achieve a podium finish on his debut since the 60’s. Starting 4th, he was able to overtake a distracted Alonso on the first corner, and lead the world champion for much of the race, and at one point led the race when Raikkonen pitted. However, the differing strategies of the McLaren’s favoured Alonso, and the Spaniard went to take 2nd, Hamilton 11 seconds behind. This particular duel is sure to entertain all season it seems.

Heidfeld ended in an impressive 4th in his BMW, and team mate Kubica could well have enjoyed similar success but for a gearbox fault. Fisichella brought his Renault home in 5th, fighting off the chasing Massa (6th) towards the end. Nico Rosberg (7th) and Ralf Schumacher (8th) took the other points paying postitions.

On Brit watch, Button (15th) had in his own words a ‘rubbish’ race, Davidson was unable to recover from a poor start and finished 16th, while David Coulthard’s endeavour in attempting to overtake Alexander Wurz into turn 3 saw him fly over the Austrian’s car, missing Wurz’s by inches!

Drivers’ Championship

Raikkonen takes the early lead, but this is just the beginning of a whole new post-Schumi era.

Constructers’ Championship

A 2-3 by Alonso and Hamilton sees McLaren (14pts) lead the pack, with Ferrari a point behind.

SupaLiga 2007

UPDATED TABLE

Norm and his F1 Aberdeen team, the highest placed 2006 entrant in SupaLiga 2007, heads the league after round 1 with 101, but Linhas BMW are only 1 point behind.

Other 2006 entrants had differing fortunes, with Super 25 (12th – 61pts), Tom34 (13th – 55pts) and ScotBordersF1 (16th – 30pts) struggling, but Burnin’ Rubber (3rd – 91pts), wolfs bangers (5th – 82pts) and HondaWilliams (6th – 80pts) got off to good starts.

For the statisticians amongst us, there’s a prefect 50/50 split between 2006 and new entrants in both halves of the table.

Unfortunately, I'm off to Calais tomorrow with the old man, so I won't be here to do it, but if someone else would like to volunteer that would be great (send me a PM just to let me know), otherwise we'll just skip it to the race.

Race Result from Malaysian GP

Official Race Result | Full Story | In Vision (All in Spanish, Telecinco)Race Start/Hamilton vs Ferrari/Last Lap/Podium

McLaren struck back today, as Alonso took the top step on the podium in Sepang on a day where, yet again, Lewis Hamilton surprised all.

The race, the hottest climatically on the F1 calendar, set off to a buzzing start as Alonso overtook pole sitter Massa on the first corner. Hamilton, starting in 4th, saw the advantage before him presented by a distracted Raikkonen and Massa, and passed both on the Ferraris going into turn 2.

From there, Alonso was able to shoot off into the distance as Hamilton served his team duties by holding up the Ferrari pair, and eventually forcing Massa to make several mistakes, the last of which would cost him 2nd place and any chance of a podium finish.

The Brazilian would finish 5th behind a workmanlike Heidfeld, who capped another great weekend for BMW with 4th.

Back to the top of the action, Hamilton briefly led the race during the first set of pit stops, but Alonso never looked under serious threat, and won with more than a 17 second lead.

The finish for Hamilton was not so comfortable, as he struggled in the closing 10 laps, and by the last Raikkonen was right behind him, but the Finn had left it too late. Hamilton took 2nd in only his 2nd race, whilst a clearly disconsolate Raikkonen made do with 3rd.

Fisichella, Trulli, and Kovalainen were 6th, 7th, and 8th respectively, though one feels for Niko Rosberg who was sure of a points paying position before retirement in lap 42.

On Brit watch, Button brought home his Honda in 12th in a thoroughly disappointing weekend, Davidson was 16th in his Aguri, and finally Coulthard suffered a brake failure a little over half way through.

Drivers’ Championship

The champion is back on top, Kimi is only 2pts behind, and rookie Hamilton is another 2pts away.

Constructers’ Championship

McLaren (32pts) now have an early lead, leading 9pts from Ferrari (23pts).

UPDATED SHORT TABLE

(Full table available in attachment)

F1 Aberdeen extent their early lead at the top, now on 214pts to 2nd place Linhas’s 201pts. Aberdeen are also 10th overall in the Pure Fantasy F1 Championship, well done to Norm, you’re doing us proud!

Creatures jump up 4 places to 4th, Stunts move up 1 to 3rd - the top 3 now have a 20pt lead on the chasing pack, as Burnin’ Rubber fall 3 places to 7th.

Also of note is the belated entry to the league of the 2006 champions, Speedy Devils…. who are placed last after Malaysia, but being one race behind, this is hardly a surprise.

Good luck, you'll especially need it Although having said that, late entrants would still have as good a chance as anyone of winning the Euro Cup since there hasn't been a race in Europe yet

Result from Qualifying of Bahrain GP

Official Qualifying Results

Hamilton continues to push those of far greater experience, and this afternoon was denied pole position by Ferrari's resident qualifying specialist, Felipe Massa.

The Brazillian was top in all the sessions, and can feel confident of fighting for victory on Sunday, a welcomed return to good fortune after his luckless start to the season. However, as was witnessed last race, Hamilton is no respecter of reputations and taking his maiden victory in only his 3rd Grand Prix is a real possibility.

Champion Fernando Alonso finds himself directly behind his young teammate in row 2, Raikkonen alongside him on the grid. The BMW team continue their great start to the season, Kubica and Heifeld are 5th and 6th on the grid respectively.

BMW's success is in stark contrast to the falling graces of Renault, who are struggling with their new Bridgestone tyres, Fisichella qualifying in 7th, whilst Kovalainen has still not got into the final qualifying session, his in 12th.

Anthony Davidson gives added cheer to Brits, impressing in his Aguri with 13th on the grid. Unfortunately, Coulthard and Button can't match the pace of their compatriots so far, the Red Bull pilot suffering problems and finding himself in 21st - particularly disappointing given teammate Webber is 8th on the grid, and the new Honda is plighted with problems, Button in 16th and one behind fellow Honda driver Barrichello.

Race Result from Bahrain GP

Official Race Result | Full Story

A thoroughly entertaining race was played out today in the deserts of Bahrain, as Felipe Massa took victory for Ferrari and Lewis Hamilton made history as the most successful debutant in F1 history, coming 2nd and achieving three consecutive podium finishes.

Going into the first corner from the start, Hamilton was unable to make a move on Massa, but Alonso did on Raikkonen to take 3rd in the early stint of the race. Jenson Button didn’t make it to lap 2, an early collision with Coulthard ending his poor weekend.

Massa led Hamilton the whole way, although Hamilton was able to keep in relative touch. McLaren’s distrust of the hard tyres, would prove to be ill-funded as, when Hamilton used him in the closing stages, he rallied to nearly catch Massa but for a lack of laps. No doubt Ron Dennis will wonder if, had they used them during the much longer middle stint, Hamilton would have been able to fight for the victory.

Alonso had a far less enjoyable race. Despite overtaking Raikkonen, he lacked pace and appeared to just be holding up the Finn until the first round of pit stops, at which point Raikkonen went ahead. Then, quite spectacularly, Nick Heidfeld (BMW) beat Alonso in turn 4 to take 5th. A very bad day at the office for the champion.

Kubica, Trulli, and Fisichella took 6th, 7th, and 8th respectively, but perhaps the hardest working driver of the race, David Coulthard, didn’t finish at all.

Starting 21st, the Scot was 13th by lap 10, battling for 9th by lap 12, and passing team mate Webber (8th on the grid) for 10th on lap 27. His race would terminate 10 laps later with driveshaft problems. A brave effort. Fellow Brit, Anthony Davidson, would also fail to finish despite a great race – at one point 6th – 6 laps short with engine failure.

Drivers’ Championship

Alonso, Raikkonen, and amazingly Lewis Hamilton are level at the top on 22pts

Constructers’ Championship

Ferrari have reduced the deficit from McLaren to 5pts, 44-39.

SupaLiga 2007

UPDATED SHORT TABLE

(Full table available in attachment)

No big jumpers position-wise, but Draconigen has blown away the disadvantage of starting one race late, scoring the 4th highest score this race and jumping 2 places up to 15th (161pts).

F1 Aberdeen are still leading the league, and have been able to increase their advantage by 25pts over the nearest opposition, now the Stunts who leapfrog Linhas, who drop to 3rd. The top 3 increase the gap from the rest to 26pts.

Toppers continue to impress moving up to 4th, that’s a 3 position rise since Australia. HondaWilliams continue to depress, they were 6th after Australia but fall 4 places to 12th after today’s race.

The New Honda – Ears come as standard, Schumi the pirate, Mr Moneybags is still Mr Moneybags, and there was four-day testing at Barcelona (yes, the very same circuit for the next race, crazy), but to be honest there was nothing to learn there.

My System: Sky+ Pace v3, and before that analouge 80cm dish with Prima by Pace box pointed at 19.2e (not very imaginative then!)

T-Minus 11 hours (and a bit) until the deadline. This is a bump just to make sure no one missed it!

Race Result from Spanish GP

[FONT=Century Gothic]Editor’s Excuse regarding qualifying report

I am currently revising for my degree finals, and the final day of the Premiership meant that the Premiership SupaLiga takes priority this week, therefore the lack of a report.

Official Race Classification | Full Story

This brilliantly entertaining season continued in Spain on Sunday, with another action-packed race won by Felipe Massa.

The reigning champion Fernando Alonso set the tone by launching into a (overly) ambitious overtaking manoeuvre at the first turn from the start, but Massa had the corner all the way, leading to the Spaniard going off the track. He would not challenge further, finishing the day 3rd.

Raikkonen would be the next attraction for the tv cameras, electrical problems forcing the Ferrari driver to retire into the pits in a slow, embarrassing cruise. The Finn left the circuit in a Fiat pick-up just 20 minute later, not a happy-chappy!

The pits also provided much spectacle – in his first stop, Massa’s engineers failed to disengage the fuel pump quickly enough, leading to a tremendous fire ball emitting from the Ferrari (don’t worry, casualty count was zero), whilst Heidfeld’s misfortune in his second stop was more comical, the German leaving the pits minus a wheel nut in a rush to rejoin the race – a neighbouring Toyota mechanic politely handed back the rolling nut! Heidfeld’s team mate, Kubica, was more fortunate, finishing 4th.

Hamilton continues an amazing start to a Formula 1 career, finishing 2nd ahead of Alonso, whilst David Coulthard rolls back the years with a 5th place finish. Rosberg (6th), Kovaleinen (7th), Sato (8th – first point ever for Super Aguri) took the other points-paying positions.

Drivers’ Championship

Lewis Hamilton (30pts) is now leading the Championship, 2pts ahead of team mate Alonso and 1 more from Massa. Raikkonen is now 4th with 22pts. Can the new kid on the block really mount a title challenge?

Constructers’ Championship

Despite Massa’s victory, McLaren now lead Ferrari by 9pts, 58 to 49.

UPDATED SHORT TABLE
(Full table available in attachment)

F1 Aberdeen have opened up a 36pt lead over, and catching them anytime soon may prove hard for their nearest rivals, the Stunts, who only scored the 3rd highest score this race, with Creatures claiming the 2nd highest, they jump up 2 places to 3rd, displacing Linhas and the Tossers who both fall 1.

Rolfw’s Rubbers stay in 6th, while this weekend’s biggest victors were kleefarr and his HondaWilliams team, who jump 5 places up to 7th with 94pts in Spain. Draconigen continue to make late of entering 1 race late, they move up 4 to 11th. Champions Speedy Devils are now just 26pts off 17th place team Spanish Armada, who sunk 4 places (sorry Alex, I couldn’t resist!).

Race Result from Monaco GP

Official Race Result | Full Race Report

As always, it was a more muted affair overtaking-wise at Monte Carlo, and unsurprisingly pole-sitter Fernando Alonso took victory in the glamour race.

The Spaniard was never really threatened, despite team mate Lewis Hamilton appearing to have an advantage in terms of fuel load, being able to visit the pits slightly later then the champion. But the narrow streets prevented the young Brit from taking advantage, and in the closing stages team orders put an end to any slim hope Hamilton had. Nonetheless, another podium finish, on the 2nd step, and a 1-2 for McLaren.

Ferrari’s weekend did not improve after the terrible qualifying session in which Raikkonen suffered technical problems – the Finn looked doomed and finished 8th, while Felipe Massa was 3rd, but more than 69 seconds off the pace.

Renault had a better weekend, Fisichella in 4th, BMW continue their fine season - Kubica and Heidfeld coming in 5th and 6th respectively, Wurz was 7th in the Toyota.

Drivers’ Championship

Alonso now leads the Championship by virtue of race wins, but is tying on points (38) with Hamilton. Massa is now 3rd with 33pts, and fellow Ferrari pilot Raikkonen is already 15pts off the top spot.

Constructers’ Championship

McLaren increase their lead over Ferrari by 11 to 20pts, 76 to Ferrari’s 56.

UPDATED SHORT TABLE

Top dog Norm and his F1 Aberdeen maintain the lead, adding 4 more points to bring up a 40pt advantage over the dangermouse’s Stunts, who are themselves looking over their shoulder at Monaco top scorers Creatures – well done to kreacher. The Tossers and Linhas swap places, and the Rubbers round out the top 6.

This weekend’s big movers are Alex’s Armada, they return to 14th, having dropped from that position in Spain. Also making headway are my very own Super 25’s, up 2 places, whilst the champions Speedy Devils are a mere 11th points off 17th Chris’ team, Slowhand Racing.
